So, we keep our hutches really clean.. we clean in daily. But for some reason we have one little lion head kit who has what seems to me to be nest eye. For some reason we can not get it under control. I have an appointment for him later this week (can not get him in any sooner :( at any vet near us). Anyways, his eye is fairly puffy, and has lots of white ***** type stuff coming out of it. I am constantly cleaning it through the day (maybe that is why it is so puffy?! ) and seems to be doing okay. But has anyone here experienced this at all.. and what did you do for it?? He is 5.5 weeks old now.

Thanks

Can you get some terramycin ophthalmic ointment? It may help until you are able to get into the vet. Check your feed/tractor supply store. Horse tack shops may also carry it.

I will check when I go to the city later on today. I just feel so bad that it happened.. is there something that a person can change so that this doesn't happen again? I am going to do some more research on it.. I just want to make sure I do everything I can to not let it happen anymore.

i dont think there is anything you can do to prevent it unless maybe changing the bedding that you're using? Some people believe it can also be from using hay and in the nest they get poked in the eye. We use hay in all our nest boxes and havent had a problem so it's not too common. But I do know breeders who keep terramycin on hand for it and it heals them up nicely.

Okay thank you. WE have been using shredded paper for bedding right now.. I figured that would be easier on the bunnies. The only hay that they have in their hutches is the alfalfa and the timothy. I will get some of the terramycin and try that. I just feel so bad for him. At first we thought it was from his mom.. and that maybe she bit him or something, but I don't think that is it, as she seems protective of the little guys.

I will just keep an eye on it I suppose and keep washing it and get the terramycin and hope that it doesn't happen again. This is the first time we have dealt with this.. well I guess we haven't had many litters yet.

THank you soo much for the help and advice!! I appreciate it, and I am sure that the little guy will appreciate it too! :)
