My bunnies don't have them but i'm curious about what causes them???
is it the size and weight of the bunny???
the cage flooring??
where they run around???
I was wondering because my bunnies run around the garage and it's concrete and their flooring is plastic in the cage?? Should I get horse stall mats so it's cushiony or do I not need to worry because they are fluffy lionheads and they don't weigh very much??
over worried mom!!!!

Lionheads seldom get sore hocks often, so I wouldn't worry. Sore hocks tend to happen to rabbits who don;t have much padding from hair under the hocks.

Sore hocks are definitely genetic. It is more prominent in Rex rabbits because of the less amount of hair of their feet. It also can happen in Flemish or even Californians because of their weight. If a rabbit has feet problems in its background then it or its offspring can have them. All the breeders I know remove rabbits from their herds with feet problems.

Type of flooring cannot be determined as people who have had their bunnies on both solid and wire have noted problems. Sometimes even people who had a rabbit on solid floor have sore hocks and as soon as they house them on wire there was never another problem.

I would only worry about the problem if there are open sores on the feet and watch the feet if they are bald. This usually happens at the back of the foot but can also happen on the front or toes
