Ok I know this is my fault so I take the fullblame. The kitten isn't spayed yet. It's not that we don't want to or weren't planning to spay her but we got sidetracked by things and before I knew it she was in her first heat. We were going to have her spayed but since Mario is due back on Thursday, we figured we'd do it when he got back.

She started going in heat yesterday and OMG. She freaking pee'd EVERYWHERE. :cry1:My whole appartment smells of cat urine! :vomit:Thing is, I didn't realize it til today but she can hear the male cat upstairs so I think it's driving the poor girl nuts.

OMG she is grouchy as heck and I started petting her and then she growled and hissedat me and whenI pushed her nose down and said "No!"she crapped :cry1:I had to give her a bath before she was covered in urine and crap and she got soooooooooo ticked off. Omg thank goodness I cut her claws cause I think she would have ripped my arm to shreds. I'm bleeding all over...

I am going to call the vet to schedule her in but it usually takes a week. Is there anything I can do from here to then? I can't lock her in the bathroom because her crying will wake the little girl. I can't even lock her in the bedroom because it's not a door that actually shuts... Right now she is in the cat carrier and staying mighty quiet.

Also, how do I properly disinfect all this? I am having a bad asthma attack because of her hormones :tears2::pullhair:

About the only thing I can say is I only had one cat go into heat and it was my first. I learned after that not to let it happen. lol.

I hope you are able to control her until she gets spayed and I'll warn you they do charge extra if shes in heat. (I suppose because they know you'll pay it.)

I wish I had more helpful advice. :?Vinegar works well for cleaning the urine spots.

Cat urine - You need to buy an enzyme cleaner. This type cleaner will contain an enzyme that eats the bacteria in cat urine thus eliminating the smell. These cleaners are liquid and can be purchased at some discount stores and pet stores. I am not sure what brands you will be able to get in Quebec but in the US some names are Nature's Miracle, Icky Poo, Simple Solution. All of these can be ordered on the Internet too. You MUST follow the directions on the container. Some are used straight out of the bottle and some ar mixed with water. If they say 'saturate' then do it. Not using enough product results in not eliminating the odor.

Kitty heat - She will probably stay quiet for 2 to 3 hours, go through a period of crying and meowing frantically and perhaps being super friendly. Then she will be quiet for a while and the cycle starts again. This can last 1 to 2 weeks or more. There are only 2 things that stop it - breeding and spaying. Of course I know you want her spayed. There is no other way to stop the heat. I would suggest using a dog crate if you can borrow one or rent one or buy. Your best option, may be expensive, would be to board her at the vets until she is spayed.

If she smells a male cat any where around, that is absolutely why she spraying uring.

Hope this helps.

I know what this is like - having a cat in heat is not fun, and you'll never do it again unless it just happens. It is nerve racking. My girl used to meow for hours on end, pee everywhere, and I couldn't get within 10 feet of her. Of course she was spayed right after, thank God! and never again.

As for the urine smell - vinegar will work well. I use a product called Enzyme odor & stain elimainator... got it this summer for our cat, who is a neutered male, but started peeing everywhere (well only in our bedroom on the carpet and on our laundry) after we got a new puppy. It really works great at taking the smell out.

Thank you guys

Yes, she is my first and I never wanted to let her get in heat in the first place because I figured it must be annoying for her... But sheesh, I never thought it would be THIS bad. I never thought "Hey Sophie, the landlords have a cat upstairs and if you could hear him don't you think your CAT could hear him?!" Omg... I feel bad having her in the cat carrier right now but I need to clean this ASAP. God it's sooo gross!

I took out the vinegar ad baking soda. It's all I have on me (well plus other cleaning stuff) but no enzymes on me right now. :?I am washing everything and it's gonna be a long night :tears2:I love my rabbits. I wish Mario were here to suffer as well :banghead

Yuck! I didn't know female cats went through that if they weren't spayed. One thing I can't stand the smell of: cat pee. Ugh, it's nasty. We live with my fiance's mom right now and she has two cats....I am soooo glad they are trained to paw at the door when they have to go outside to pee or poo.

I'm sorry you have to go through this :(.
