It can be quite hard to identify a baby, so you may have to wait until your beautiful bun is fully grown and then ask again, although some clever people may have an answer for you while he is still a baby :)

The person that was going to release it to the wild said it is a dwarf, but didn't know the breed.
My first though it was a miniature and personally still think it is a mini.

Didn't think of it being a cross, until you mentioned it.

Meat rabbit? Well, the nickname I gave him is 'lunch':)

whats the problem?? its-small black and white, lagamorph,? maybe he doesn,t want to talk right now,,maybe he is a she!!.james waller.,healthy yes,??

There aren't just "dwarf" rabbits. That is a term used by a lot of breeders, pet stores, shelters, who have no idea what they're selling. "Dwarf" sounds small and lures people in. Back in the day (before I new better), we bought a "dwarf" bunny. She's 6-7 lbs. now. LOL!

Anyway, she is not a Netherland Dwarf, which is an actual ARBA recognized breed. They have tiny tiny ears so that's a dead giveaway that she doesn't fall into that category. Dwarfs looks like mice when they are young because their ears are so short.

She looks like a good mix to me. How old is she?

I re-read my post and I see that I started off with It's a...ment to say Is it a....

I asked because of the ears being long. I also thought of dwarfs as having short ears. A Cottontail vs a Jack Rabbit look the bigger on has the long ears.

Either way it is now an addition to the family :)

We are not sure how old it is. It is very active and seems to be in good health.

It has already attached itself to my youngest son and runs and squirms when the oldest tries to pick it up.
We say it marked my youngest when shes squirted pee on him on the first day it was here.

How do you tell the sex of a rabbit, so we can know for sure what it is? I've looked but I don't know what it is, it doesn't have what easy to identify part like dogs, bulls, sheep, etc :)

Thanks for all the replies, read them all !!!

If you can get a few clear pictures, I could verify sex for you.

Both bucks and does will protrude when you gently expose the opening. Does appear to be more of a slit and look like a pyramid from the side. Bucks have a rounder hole opening and obviously if you see the penis protrude, that's a pretty good indicator! This bunny may be a little bit young for inexperienced eyes to judge. But when he is a few months older, it should be a lot more obvious!
