I am looking at possibly adopting this 4 month old Eng Lop. He has a blue, cloudy right eye and his left eye is essentially looking backwards and only shows the whites of his eye. He does not have sight in the left eye and slightly tilts his head to the right. His right eye, being cloudy looks like he may have some visual impairments on that sie as well, but is able to navigate around fairly well...

He has not ever seen a vet. I am thinking of offering to take him to the vet regardless of whether I adopt him.

Anyone have any experience with an eye that is blue and cloudy? Anyone ever seen an eye that sort of looks like extreme cherry eye, with the pupil basically rolled backwards?

I am worried about his well-being as well as his comfort being a bunny that comes to work with me in the clinic situation, etc.

Any advice is super appreciated.

I think taking him to a vet before you make a decision. I know the forum has an active member who has a blind rabbit who seems to have adapted pretty well, so I hope she'll give you more information, plus any other members as well.

It sounds like there may be quite a lot wrong there. Are the eyes bulgy at all? Are you sure the eye is turned back, or could there be a growth of white tissue over part of the eye so that it looks like his iris is pointed back? Is the blue, cloudy eye all cloudy or just the pupil? The presence of a head tilt also is concerning. The bunny needs to see a vet at the very least, and ideally a veterinary opthamologist.

The head tilt indicates a problem with the inner ear. If there is an infection there, it could cause swelling and put pressure on the eye, leading to eye damage. If there is an abscess behind the eye, it could cause the eye damage and also put pressure on the inner ear.

I can send you to a site with pics of eye conditions but it is quite disturbing and I know many people (including myself) are more squeamish about eyes than other things. It's here:

If you are not willing to look at it, please let me know anything else you can about the way the eyes look and I can post relevant pictures to avoid the distressing ones. If you could post pics of this bunny or point us to its petfinder page or something that would also be helpful.

So sorry to hear this bunny is in such a bad way with his eyes. My hats off to you for taking him to a Vet even before purchasing to help this sweet lop out.

Regarding the head tilt, I have some recent experience with my Neville and this condition. And what Claire states in her informative post is that this condition is an inner ear infection and can affect the eye. I was to watch the eye (that is directed to the floor due to the tilt) to make sure no swelling or redness occurred.

Thanks Claire, yes you are so right thatthe site you posted, is a bit upsetting, but very, very informative.

Wishing you all the best for this English Lop. Please let us know what you find out.

K:)
