I just came back from the Nail Salon.
I made my brother sit through 2 and a half hours of me getting my nails done.
I got UV Gel's.
Their Painted light pink with red and white swishes across them.
But unfortunatly I'll never go back to that Nail Salon.
Why, you may ask
For one, The used a used nail file/clipper on me.
She cut under all my nails, she said its for my nail to grow.
When she made me wash my hands (After they bled because of her)
She made me whipe my hands with a towel, And put it back on the rack.
I asked her 'Do you have a laundry basket I can put it in'
She said no, it wasen't dirty.
She din't know, I could of had aids, Hiv
Anything, and shes putting the next customer at risk (I dont have Aids or Hiv)
Did I mention after she cut under all my nails..
She used that same tool on another customer.

I just wanted to say, Be aware of the next time you go get your nails done.
Ask questions, Don't be afraid to ask her to use another CLEAN tool.
I din't notice until after the fact, when my brother pointed it out.

unfortunately that is the way it is everywhere. Technically they are suppose to put the metal tools they use in a auto clave, dont know if that is the right spelling, like they use at tattoo palor for the sterilzation of the equipment. There are some salons where you can have your own file and things like that , that they keep in a box on a shelf with a number on it just for you. There have been many , many undercover investigations done on nail salons, but even after the investigations people, including me, still flock to them.

If i where you i would make sure to disenfect your wounds and keep them clean, I have never heard of cutting under your nails to make them grow and even if that is true and the case, it is dangerous to do so with equipment that isnt sterilized.

Oh wow...that's horrible...

The reason I love the place I go to so much is the fact that they have a whole big portion of their counter there with jars full of disinfecting fluid, and all their tools sitting in it. Then they just rinse them off, dry them, and use them.

I've watched them do their work many times now, and have seen nothing but really sanitized procedures.

My suggestion when you're considering a new place: come in about a half-hour (or more) before your appt so you can watch and see how they operate. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you asked them how they did things. You should see ladies using those jars with the sanitizing fluid in them, or maybe using tools that are in plastic break-open packages that are from them having sent them out to have been sanitized.

Isn't there also some govt place you can call to report that particular salon? There really should be SOMEONE watching places like this...

I agree with Rose. The places I have gone to cleans everything also they have this cleaning uv machine that they put their tools in as well. They put that in there before the next customer.

YUCK :(!

I don't get my nails done. I think it's a major waste of money for me ($50 for a full set and tip around here), when I could be spending the money for the pets or saving it towards vet bills. I've become very money concious (sp?) lately, anyway. Lol. I always ask myself..."Do I NEED it or do I just WANT it?"

The last time I had my nails done, years ago, my real nails got odd dents in them...and STILL have them, for some reason.

I might get my nails done again some day...on my wedding day, but thats a big maybe, lol.

I'm sorry your experience wasn't all that great :?.

Dang people...

Here there's a nail salon on every corner..a full set of Acrylics with Tips for me runs $20, and a fill is $10. A pedi is between $17 to $45 depending on how ya want it done..

Actually all cosmetologists have to get their license from a state board. You can also report said cosmetologists/nail techs and their salon to the state board. They usually have the address clearly displayed in several signs throughout the salon..

By law, here in Texas, they are required to display both the address and number of the state board for complaints, and a framed version of their license/permits with a current pic.

The salon I go to actually has a set of tools for each customer.. as in files and the like, the metal implements are Barbicided and then autoclaved before each customer.

You can also go to Sally's, get your own implements, and bring them for each visit, insuring proper sanitation.

Im from canada, So theres no 'state law'..and im not sure who to cantace about this. But my moms going in monday to talk to them..my fingers hurt from them cutting under them all

When I lived in California, I went to one place that I got several fungus infections in a row from...stopped going there. I found a new place that disinfected and UV'd the implements between customers. The place I go to here in Florida does the same thing.

There is a huge differencein pricing between Florida and California. I have gel nails and it costs me $18 for a fill and spa pedicure is $22. I visited Cali last summer for a wedding and a gel fill was $14 and spa pedi was $15...go figure. Since the cost of living is more expensive in California, why is it cheaper to have your nails done?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of places that are cheaper...but they're cheaper in quality, too.

The place I go to costs me $30 for a fill (that's including the $5 tip I give them), $40 for a set (same $5 tip included), and $12 for a spa pedicure (though I think the price depends on EXACTLY what kind of pedicure you want), and they do WONDERFUL work. Their work is good enough that I have had people think my nails were natural, and didn't believe me at first when I told them they were acrylics! :D

Really love them...they're called Salon Polished in Burbank. :D

Down on the farm....

I have pigs, goats, llamas, chickens, rabbits, heifers, steers, calves and horses.

I shovel the poo and fix fences.. I haul animals across the yard.. shove them in the loading chute.. slap em in a horse trailer...even hold a pig upside down by it's hind legs to get castrated. I have fixed prolapsed hawgs and calves..

I have my nails and toes done on a regular basis.

I think it all depends on how you use your fingers...they arn't shovels or scoops or screwdrivers..

But yeah, I have had a showpig wedge my foot between a pig board and a wall, and rip my toenail off through my boot...

As I was telling Peg earlier.. I have gotten to where I can go in the barn, or climb a gate or get in a pen without getting dirty and having to change my clothes..

But then again I am 6ft3 and I could prolly scale a gate by just extending my leg a bit..

OT.....I recently met the tallest man I have ever seen. He is a co-worker in our Greenville office. He is nearly 7 feet tall! He used to play in the NBA a while back. I swear his hand is bigger than my foot. Little 'ole me barely topped his waist.

What do they do to your nails that would require sanitation? My mind boggles ! I've never had my nails 'done' or seen anyone elss get done, I just cut mine once a month or so and that's about it.

Well, sometimes there's an occasional cuticle that gets cut and bleeds...

And then you have all the really yucky stuff people might have under their nails...

And with pedicures...you might have the issue of bacteria on the foot...etc.

Just various yucky things like that...:yuck
