Hi. Recently, I brought home a 11 week old Flemish Giant male, by the name of Phoenix, and although he's very sweet, he has been nipping quite a bit. When I come to the hutch (He's an outdoor rabbit) and open the door, he comes hopping over. Sometimes he will get up on his hind legs and set his front paws on my shoulder, while nudging my face and just smelling me. Also, while I'm trying to fill up his crock of food, or his water bowl, he'll nudge me away. I've been trying to handle him a lot, because I was planning on showing him in the county fair, but is this normal? All the nudging? He usually won't nip at my hand, but he does a lot of nudging. I understand when I get in his way he nudges my hand as if to say "Hey, your in my way" but other then that, what does it mean?

Male unneutered rabbits will nip at a female. I think if he is nipping he just likes you. The nudging bit is just looking for attention. He may even start spraying you as he goes into puberty. I guess if you are showing him, you can't have him fixed? We have always had male rabbits neutered as they sprayed me and oinked around my feet in a mating dance. My husband thought it was hilarous.
