AGOUTIS!

I don't know ANYTHING about the genetics of them; although I've started to look into it. A friend of mine was selling a trio of chins, and wanted some of my sable points. So I traded her an older (and rather nice) sable point doe for a chinchilla doe. And I got to bring home the buck to borrow. (I'll probably buy him. He's still show worthy, in my opinion, and I've love to put him back on the tables. XD)

I am SO sorry about the pics. Hopefully I can take better posed, lighter photos in the morning. These were last minute to show off to a friend. LOL.

This is Rainier's Timmy

He has a small dip in the shoulder, yes I see that. That's the only think I really dislike about him though. He has fairly good color, fairly good ring definition. I like his head. A little pointy to the ears. But he has decent bone, and a good body.
He has a couple legs (BOV and BOSG, I think?) from half a year ago or so. I don't think he'll be super competitive with the Chestnuts around here, but eh. I like him enough. XD

And this is Jensen's Heidi

Please excuse the pose! I'll get a more natural one tomorrow. She has a dewlap (poop!), but I figure I'd try her and see. I believe she's older, around 4. I figure she'll probably only have one or two more litters... But I'm hoping she'll give me a replacement in that litter or two. She is fairly compact. A little long in midsection, which I HATE, but I'll let it slide. More room for babies. 8D I'm not a fan of the head, or shape of the ears, but at least they're small and thick. lawl.

I'm thinking about grabbing a couple of chestnuts from Shadowlands. Is there a problem mixing chestnuts and chinchillas? I can make sure they don't carry for chocolate. (Not that I think shadowlands has any chocolates? LOL) I was more so worried about the rufus of the chestnut and the white triangle of the chin... But that's what y'all are for. XP

I also think I'm going to breed that chin boy to the cute older junior broken black otter doe once she's had this litter. Might even foster it off, just in case I don't end up keeping the buck. (Ick. She's nesting 13 days early. T.T; But I confirmed at least 3, if not 4 or 5 babies in her.)

How about a couple of silver martens to breed with your chins? XD

Chins are A-B-Cchd-D-E- respectively.

Can't wait to see the better pictures!

Chins are actually

A-B-chd-D-E-

what you posted is a chestnut hiding the chin gene.

A- B- c[sup]chd[/sup]- D- E-
if we're really getting technical.

XD No one has silver martens around here, tho! I swear, I've only seen ONE. EVAR.

Excuse me if I didn't format my letters the same way you do. C[suP]chd [/suP]was what it was meant to be.

Megan, no one anywhere has any silver martens. XD

Actually, you are extremely close to Peek At Chu Rabbitry which has probably the best silver martens in the country.

*coughcough* Actually, Lela, it HAS to be a little c! c[sup]chd[/sup]!!!!
JK LOL.

I've never seen this person. =/ I chatted a little bit over the internets, but I've never actually seen them. I'll probably throw an email their way to see if she might have some silver martens or anything agouti available any time soon.

Lol. :)

That's interesting. They must be a bit out of touch. Their web site hasn't been updated in forever either. We shall see though. Not sure how expensive they would be either, though there is one of them for sale in Pennsylvania for $300, but that breeder way overprices all of her rabbits anyway.

Chestnuts will be fine to breed with chins, as evidenced by my genetic code writing mistake. :)They are exactly the same except for the c[suP]chd[/suP] which will just follow basic rules of dominant/recessive genes.

So I don't continue on that long quote session... XD

What about the rufus of the chestnut. Would it mess with the white/black of the chin? Peek At Chu seems to take pride in their very orange chestnuts. X3 This is coming right of my butt, but I'd be worried about tinting them brown? LOL.

The c[suP]chd [/suP]gene removes all of therufus coloring. Thet's how we get silver martens and chins in the first place. There is nothing to worry about there. What tints them brown is when you start throwing c[suP]chl[/suP] into the mix. Hopefully you won't have that problem.

Ooooh. that makes sense. XD

AND WOOOHOOOO! Peek At Chu is going to set me up with some niiiice blacks and silver martens! 8D It'll be quite a drive to go pick them up, so I'm hoping she'll come out to a West WA show.... But I have a feeling this might be a good turn around. Plus, if I keep the lines separate, I can use the martens with shadeds, and have some sable martens... As long as I don't mix them in with chins. X3

THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!! :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

(and also no fair, I really wish I didn't live so far away or I would aleady have some PAC's silver martens)

Oh lucky you!! It's great that you have breeders not that far away that can set you up for new projects. I wish I could just hop over:)
