I have had a blog here but I am not sure what happened to it as I cannot find it. So I will start a new one.
I have two rabbits, Sweetie, my lionhead mix doe, she is now 2 1/2 years old, and I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. When she was 8 weeks old, she went through constipation. I gave her some apple and she was feeling better, she pooped. I took her to the vet to make sure that she didn't have anything else wrong with her. About a year later she has the same thing. So the process starts again. Got her through it. Then this year in January 2011 she has another gas attack. This time she had mild GI stasis. Well I got her through it. Each time she has had these gas problems I would always get her through. In January 2010, I had her spayed. I was a total mess. I was panicky all the time while she wasn't with me. When I went to pick her up she was still waking up so the vet tech let me have her and wake her up. She was very happy to see me and be in a familiar area of the vet office. She has been very healthy with not a major health issue that has cost me more than $150. I spent $150 for her gas bout and mild GI stasis. I am so very proud that she is the healthiest bunny I have. Sweetie has also went through ear mites, they were mild.
Prince, my purebred netherland dwarf, he is now 2 1/2 years old also. Sweetie and Prince are a month apart. Prince has been sick up until this year. He has went through ear mites, GI upset, broken leg, tics (like tourette syndrome). I have spent over $3000 on him. That $3000 was just his leg that he broke. Everything is now under control and he is very healthy with no health issues.
When Prince broke his back right leg, I was very upset because at the time I didn't have any money to take him to the vet, but I did. I had two options: 1) apply for care credit and hope to be approved, or 2) put Prince down. Well I applied for care credit and was approved, and my mom helped me with paying for his leg to be healed. It took 10 weeks for Prince's leg to heal. He now uses his leg to stand, periscoping. I try to get him to use his leg when he is just hopping around but sometimes he doesn't use it.
Prince used to nip me all the time, but I still remember the day he licked me. It was when I was clipping his nails, I clipped his nails on his bad leg first, then I clipped the nails on the other three legs. Then as I was clipping his nails, he licked me. I melted with love, because that is the first time he ever licked me. I don't remember when he stopped nipping but I am glad he stopped.
Sweetie and Prince have been through so much and I am glad that they are two of the healthiest bunnies on this forum.
