My boyfriend got me a rabbit for our 1 1/2 yearanniversery. yay! lol, she's the custest thing. She's all black withbrown eyes. She's an 8 week oldmini rex and she's great! THebreeder I got her from said she wasnt' handled all the much so she'spretty uneasy around other people, butI think she likes mebecause I'll open her cage door (she's an inside rabbit) and she'll hopout and stand there and look at me like "why arn't you petting me?" shedoesn't like to be held that much yet, She gets real uneasy about beingup high.

Also, I had to take her to the vet yesterday.. she was sick:growl:made me so mad since I had just gotten her a couplehours when I realized she was sick! I call the breeder and all she saidwas "I'll take her back if you don't want her" but I DO want her.. so Iended up taking her to the vet and getting her checked out. Turns out,she had a cold..I don't remember the term the vet used.. but anywaysshe had a temp of 105 (which I guess is high for a rabbit) and he gaveher a shot and oral antibiotics for me to give her.

I thought it was gonna be so hard to get her to eat the medicine. but Iput it up to her mouth and held it there for a few seconds and shestarted eating it on her own. she loved it! It was great.. so anyways,I guess all I wanted to say was that I'm new here and a new rabbitowner and introduce myself, but ended up saying a bit more. lol. Thanksguys!

Congrats, she's adorable!!!

Check the Top Picks thread, there are TONS of links and really goodinfo there...also, if questions, ask away...there are alot of veryknowledgable folks around here!

What an adorable mini rex. You've very lucky. Does she have a name yet?

That's too bad she wasn't socialized at a young age. You'll have tobuild her trust to start. I'd suggest trying to avoid picking her uptoo much at the start if you can help it. Rabbits really do dislikebeing picked up so if she thinks she's going to be picked up wheneveryou reach down to her or put your hand in her cage, she'll becomeanti-social very quickly.

Congrats on your new bun, you'll love her, I'm sure.

I almost forgot, I had a question, is it safe totake midnight out on car rides? I like taking her over to my friendswith me to show her off and to socialize with her. But is that ok?

thanks!

As long as she doesn't seem to stressed byit. My Corky LOVES to go places, he doesn't even go in acarrier anymore, he either sits with me, or if its just the 2 of us, hesits in the passenger seat...he's so at ease he'll even groom himselfwhile riding!

It's okay to take her with you but, until shehas finished taking all her Meds and has the "all clear" from your Vet,I wouldn't. If she is at all contagious, you do not want tobe responsible for getting another bun sick. Plus, the stressof being transported right now can make her even sicker. Doesshe have Pasturella? If she does, this is highlycontagious.

She is beautiful! One of my three rabbits is aMini Rex too. Don't be surprised byher crinkly littlewhiskers and if she sometimes gets a bald patch, usually behind herears. That's normal.

Yes, it's ok.

Look what RaspberrySwirl does with her rabbit Sebastian!

Welcome to the forum! Midnight is beautiful, and I hope she gets well soon.

If you want to take her on car rides, start with short ones. After she's better, of course. If she doesn't seem too scaredor adjusts to them quickly, you can start taking her on longerrides. When you get a carrier for her, leave it out in herplay area so she recognizes it as safe. This has helped me alot at vet visits.

Yaay! what a sweetie of a boyfriend...mine didthe same .. Freddy was a Valentine's day present! Midnight is such abeauty! i cannot wait to hear and see more of her :)

Hello and Welcome!

Sorry to hear Midnight is sick. I hope she hets to feelingbetter real soon. I would off on any car rides for visits until hte vetsays she no longer sick. After that start on short car rides and if shehandles that ok you can increase the car time by 15 minutes eachtime.

Apollo loves car rides. He lays in the paassenger seat. He either sleeps or sits up and looks out the window.

Good Luck to both of you. I look forward to getting to know you and Midnight better.

Midnight is a real little doll.
