I went to the shelter today for the first time as a volunteer. I spent three hours there and had an awesome time with the rabbits. The good news is that Ramirez (who had been there since last November) has been adopted. The bad news is that Poe, a REW flemish giant has taken his place.

This is Gee Whiz. He is a very mellow lover boy. He doesn't like to be held, but is amenable to nose rubs. He was the rabbit that played the most with the toys I brought. I figured out why he was named Gee Whiz. He pees. A lot.

This is Cheri. She is a very high strung BEW Netherland Dwarf. When I put her in the pen , she wouldn't move for a while. Then she started running around and exploring. She didn't like being petted on the floor, but I got her in my lap and she really seemed to enjoy that. She sat there forever and let me pet her head. She needs a little TLC, but I think she has a lot of potential.

This is Bugs. He is the sweetest boy ever. He explored for a bit, nudged a few toys, ate some romaine, and then hopped into my lap and demanded nose pets!

I had a really wonderful day! Another bunny person came in and was thrilled to see me there. She said there are hardly any people that volunteer to come in and play with the rabbits.

Ummm.....Mods......something weird happened with the topic of this post. It was supposed to say "My First Day as a Volunteer". I have no idea what happened.

I got it. :biggrin2:

and

CUTE BUNNIES !!!!

I'm so jealous of youuuu! Look at Whizzy! He's so handsome...and Cheri so cuuute, and then there is Bugs, who makes me wish I lived in Florida, then I'd have you bring him to me.

I'm glad Ramirez found a home, but hopefully Poe will go soon.

I'm glad you had an awsome day!

That's so awesome! I'm jealous too...I'd love to be able to volunteer at a shelter with buns. All the ones around here never seem to have any rabbits. Only very occasionally.

I'm glad you had such a good day though, it sounds like loads of fun! Those buns are beautiful - I hope they find the good homes they deserve.

WTG glad you had a good time, I wish I had the time to volunteer at a shelter or even work at a shelter, but maybe when the kids are in school i can do something like that. I am jealouse of you.

Keep the picks coming.

THank you for sharing them with us! Bugs is REALLY cute!

I am so glad to hear Ramirez got a home!

I'm really looking forward to going back on Wednesday after work. Coming up....pictures of Poe, the flemish giant, and the new angora I heard they had in the holding room.

I need to get them to move Poe from the very top cage down to the bottom. He's so big and I'm so short that I'm at all comfortable getting him out of his cage standing on a step ladder. What were they thinking when they put him up there when there were two free cages on the bottom? He can tell I'm not comfortable lifting him from the top.

I love volunteering. It gives you such a great feeling. Now don't be bringing everyone home ;)

Aww...too cute...what sweeties!

And it must be WONDERFUL volunteering...

I wish I could, but I honestly worry about bringing them all home with me. I mean, heck, I've got twelve, and haven't ever volunteered anywhere!

LOL...

This is great news, Patti! Isnt it wonderful to be able to help out the bunnies?! A word of warning though, three years ago I started volunteering at Midwest and everyone here was joking I was going to wind up with more bunnies (I had just the three at the time)..now I have 7. lol

They are all so beautiful though and Im sure the shelter is more than happy to have an amazing person like you on board!
