Hi! I am a new member and first time to take care of a rabbit. I've done some research on how to take care of them and to understand their behavior. I got him just this Feb 1 and been feeding him with fresh veggies, fruits and some pellets. Since then he has grown so much and became a little heavy. He roams around the whole house and he knows where to pee and poop. He's smart and sweet little guy <3. Today was quite different. Since I have been working 5 days - 8 hours a week, my mom takes care of him for the rest of the day. She messaged me today and our rabbit seems super sleepy. Is that normal? Thanks in advance :)

During specific hours, after a meal and playing the bunny will often be really sleepy.

Myself know which hours of the day my bunnies will sleep or play. Often around 10-16 my bunnies aren’t that active.

Noted on this. He's probably just tired of all the playing and eating :) Thank you. So relieved upon reading this because my mom and I were really worried about this. Thanks again Hermelin! :)

Hi,
Sleepiness happens, especially after a big meal, and when the weather is strange. Make sure your buns halways have hay and fresh water.
When my buns are sleepy and I am not sure whether everything is alright, I feed them with a treat. If they dont eat for 12 to 24 hours or dont poo in that time, it makes sense to check with a vet if everything is alright.
Have fun with your bun!

Most of the day you’ll find that your rabbits are sleeping. I’m at home most of the time and he naps all the time but often wakes up to eat or use the bathroom. So if just say as long as he’s eating (which I’m sure he is, since you said he gained weight), he should be okay

The dead bunny flop sometimes scares me. I’ll wake him up and give him a treat i’ll take note of the weather too. Thank you Annettesutter!

I think I will need to get used to this kind of behaviour. Especially with the dead bunny flop! I agree with you too, as long as he is eating, he’s okay. Thanks! Joining this forum is very helpful ❤️❤️

The dead bunny flops always get me.:)Apollo does this thing were he’ll flop onto his back which scares me, making me wake him up. One time he loafed in a corner and I accidentally dropped something (it was loud) and he didn’t wake up. I called him, didn’t wake up. I shook him gently, he wouldn’t wake up. There I was stressing out because he looked dead and he opened his eyes and hopped away.
But yeah, bunnies can do some weird things, especially when they’re tired of comfortable!

Welcome to the forum! Your bun is so cute!

During the afternoons, my rabbit is lazy and spends most of her time lounging around certain areas of my room. Totally sounds like your rabbit is relaxed and feeling full!

Include hay in his diet as well. He should have access to unlimited hay (or a large amount) in his litter box/around it. Be careful on fruit as its high in sugar. If you see that his tiredness is still lingering, not eating/pooping after 12-24 hours, then get simethicone in his system and get in contact with a rabbit savy vet.

Rabbits can be less active during the middle of the day. However, if your rabbit isn't behaving or eating as he normally would, that can be a sign there's a problem.

Abnormal changes of appetite can be a sign of pain or discomfort. If your rabbit is showing these signs and if it's been more than 12 hours since your rabbit last ate (or ate very well) and/or your rabbit's condition deteriorates, this can be a sign of an emergency situation and I would get to an experienced rabbit vet immediately. If you continue to have any concerns about your rabbit it's best to consult with your vet.
