Well, I was asked to start a blog for my sweet Rex bunny Mwalla. She is a great bun bun and I am glad we have her... she has been with us now about 3 years, she was rescued from the girl down the street who was going to let her go! We took her home and she had us in her pocket from the moment we walked in the door!

She is such a wonderful bunny.. My son named her Mwalla (he is 4) and the name stuck LOL She is the softest thing Ive ever felt and I love to cuddle her. I love her color! and to think someone just wanted to throw her away!

Isn't she an angel! Id love to get another rex...but I dont know how she'd feel about a friend.

:inlove: All I can say is thanks for starting her a blog cuz I'm in loooove with her!:inlove:

May I ask why you gave her a bath? It's really not good for them, generally and can send them into shock. If poopy butt is existent, best to do just a butt bath with corn starch to start.

Gosh, I love her!

Here's a thread from our library on bonding buns, may help you in your decision to get another for her.;)

Awwwwh she's soo cute!

Though why did you give her a bath? they spend most of their day cleaning them selves! Just wondering :biggrin2:

Great start to the blog :)

I bathed her because she was outside running in the yard earlier and it was damp and she had gotten dirty from digging and playingand i didnt want dirt all over my house..lol..

I do bathe her once in a while... I guess if she wasnt a house pet I wouldnt... but she is..and my vet said it doesnt hurt her. I use tearless baby shampoo cuz thats what my vet said is ok to use. and i dont wash her face except with a damp cloth.

doesnt anyone else bathe their bun buns?

I have 8 and only one gets a bath atleast once a month. He is ill and sometimes gets urine on himself. They are all inside. 5 in my bedroom and 3 in the living room.

Mwalla is so gorgeous... can definitely tell why you love to cuddle that fur, looks soooo soft! :D

Thankfully healthy rabbits are an animal that doesn't need to be bathed.. they are actually really clean and are more than happy to keep themselveswashed :). Usually bathes are only needed if they get a messy bum, but otherwise they will groom and bathe themselves!

About the bonding,is she spayed? There is a great rescuein Aldergrove with many many bunnies, and they welcome speed dating! Doesn't hurt to bring her in to see how she reacts withother bunnies :).If you want more details, feel free to PM me!

What a gorgeous little girl! (I shudder to think what would have happened to her had you not been there to take her in. :() She has such lovely color...and I've always loved the Rex too for their velvety soft coats, and those big doe eyes. :inlove:

She is a beauty. Hope to see many more pics of Mwalla (love her name)!

Oh, and welcome to the forum too, btw :biggrin2:

So today was nice outside so after a nice morning of lounging on the couch with my daughter (Mwalla jumped up there and snuggled in and stayed there for almost an hour after my daughter ran off)

I took her outside to the back yard for some grass time, although this time she was dissapointed, as she had to stay in her outside pen, Usually she runs loose, but since we are in the process of putting up a new shed this week, there are just way to many things she could go under or get hurt on... anyway, just thought Id share todays pics with you all, Mwalla says HI...

We are trying to get her to use the litterbox in her cage, but she seems to be going everywhere BUT the litterbox... WHAT am i doing wrong? I had the whole bottom floor of her cage as shavings and that is where she would pee etc, but she is laying in it and getting yucky.. so I need another solution.. I tried to put a litter pan inthere for her with the shavings in it and left the rest of the cage bare... I tried a towel but she just shredded it!

I dono what to try next.. maybe if i put shavings in the bottom floor like i had, but someother kind of litter? any ideas? is she to old to litter train, she doesnt pee when she is oput of the cage, but she will poop... Id like to litter train her...this long we have kinda just been putting up with the turd on the floor and picking them up as she goes..LOL but Id rather see her use a box... what can I do?

About the bonding,is she spayed?

No Mwalla is not spayed. I had thought about getting it done, but she is getting up there in age now, So I'd rather not put her through the surgery if it isnt completely nessisary... I have had her around 2other bunnies that I fosteredand they picked on her terrible, so I decided not to chance it. and I was relieved when they went to their new home as they were not nice to her... They used to follow her around the house and bite her tail. so i started letting them out at seperate times and they would STILL torment her by going at her cage... those bunnies were not very nice... not to her or to us LOL, they used to bite and scratch every time anyone came near them, and they were both speyed! They almost turned me off to bunnies all together! LOL they are happy now though, in their adult only home with no other bunnies.. they have their own bedroom and everything!

But I felt that Mwalla was upset so badly then that it would be best not to get another bun, incase they treated her the same way. I thought about maybe a neutered male..but i heard males spray and such.. plus i dont want her to have to put up with being humped all the time LOL.. Then someone suggested a guinea pig...but...I cant say I am a fan of them... Do you think she is unhappy as an only Bun? she gets lots of attention and love from us...

I had my Poppy girl spayed a 3, and she passed through the spay with flying colours :). It's actually safer with the surgery than to chance her getting uterine tumors that could lead to being cancerous as she gets older. Very common in unspayed older does, and 3 is still quite early to get it done with an experienced vet. Eagle Ridge Hospital in Coquitlam didn't even have any concerns with spaying at that age, just as long as they are in good health over all... they are an excellent vet and I definitely recommend them :).

It depends with the bunny, but I can say my three trio are the happiest I've ever seen them since I bonded them. Usually if you can find a calm, submissive male you are good to go. It's funny though, lots of people say males spray.. but my Bruno and Georgie have hardly ever sprayed, but pre-spay.. my girls sprayed EVERYWHERE! It was crazy!

Just something to think about, I frequent the shelter very often, and there are a few very sweet males. But would probably be a good idea if you are considering it, to get her spayed first since it will help a lot with introductions.. it's good to look into regardless, since it's much healthier for her so you both don't have to face possible dangers with uterine tumors that could end up cancerous.

We had a bunny that we didn't spay right away and noticed one day she had an enlarged nipple which was cancerous.  That was removed and she spayed at the same time.  She lived for 4 more years then the cancer showed up and we had to put her down.  It's to get bunny spayed before something like happens.

All you can do is keep putting her poops and paper that she pee's on into her litter box. Persistence will pay off, she will eventually get the idea. Good luck!

I have a stubbornHotot that I had to replace her litter box because she chewed the lip of it off. She doesn't like the one I replaced it with and isnot using it consistently, so I just keep putting it back in.

all i can say is that she is GORGOUS!! if there was a bunny beauty contest, i bet she would win!

i am jealous that she likes to snuggle with your daughter on the couch.
