For the past two days, I've found faint brown stains on my one bun's blanket. Today, I saw her pass foul-smelling mushy cecals (and even brown liquid) when she attempted to reach back and eat them.

She's been fighting stasis for two weeks, and we've finally started turning the corner with that. But now she's clearly having mushy and/or liquid-form cecals.

The vet who's treating her for the stasis--not my primary vet, btw--isn't overly concerned. He said I should give her system a few more days' to balance itself out after all that my girl's been through. She is taking Pro Bi--a prebiotic/probiotic/enzyme supplement--but I'm not confident that's enough to handle the current imbalance.

If in my shoes, what would you do? I'm tempted to see if my primary vet will see my girl and run a fecal/cecal culture. But she knows that I've seen this other vet for the current issue, and I worry that her hands may be tied--i.e., that she won't want to try to "fix" a situation created by another vet's treatment regimen. Ugh.

Thank you,

Jenk

:( I'm sorry to hear that your gilr is sick. How's she doing now ? I'd suggest you to take your girl to the vet, your primary vet. Maybe you can discuss with her about your bun's condition. Besides ther mushy poo, is there any other symptoms ?

Sending you and your girl lots of hugs,
:hug2:

As of right now, the main thing is that my girl isn't 100% her active self yet. (She's nearly acting normal in this regard, but I don't want a cecum flora imbalance to throw her off again.) And she's still not willingly taking all the things that she normally likes--like her prebiotic/probiotic and Reglan, both of which she normally licks from a spoon. But during this stasis issue, I've had to force everything into her.

Her fecals are nearly normal now, but she's still not taking all the things that she likes. She's lost quite a bit of weight, in spite of the Critical Care feedings she was receiving. And now there's the mushy cecals that are sometimes in liquid form. (I found a new spot of liquid cecals on her pen blanket this morning.)

The thing that gets tricky is that my primary vet doesn't want to step on the toes of the other vet my girl's recently seen. Maybe I'm too honest and shouldn't tell each vet what exam(s) my buns have had. Heh.

I think it happens with all vets. Before my girl had spaying operation, I'd contacted with my primary vet about it. But at the clinic where we visited him, he didn't do any operations but another vet. I begged him to do it for my girl 'cause I trust him and I was terrified to pass her through another vet whom I hadn't met before. It turned out that another vet had the same idea about " stepping on somebody's toes" is sth to avoid.
I think it might take some time for your baby girl to get back to her 100% self. Pls let us know any update when you can. I'll be thinking of you and your girl.
Get well soon,
Kimiko and her family :)

I'm doing everything in my power to not step on any vet's toes. I've always been honest about when one rabbit was recently seen by my primary vet--which means that the 2nd (exotics-only) vet charges me an additional $20 "second-opinion" fee. But I just don't want anyone to think that I'm playing one vet against another.

I think you're right about it taking our girl a while to get back to her normal self.

Last night was the first time in weeks that she acted mostly like herself--especially when out for her nightly exercise. She remained more active rather than restful. And I've not found any new cecal stains on her blanket since very early yesterday morning.

Hello :) How's your girl doing ?
Hey, thank you for asking.

For now, she's still eating/peeing/pooping well, though she is drinking a larger quantity of water than normal. She's acting mostly normal when awake/active. She's also still passing some liquid when she reaches back to eat her cecals, though not always.

I'm to give the vet an update tomorrow and will ask about the possible need for a fecal culture based on the symptoms.
