Mothers day is fast approaching and as usual I wait to the last minute, I need some ideas.

Here is what I have so far:

  1. Magazine subscription that she wouldn't normally buy for herself, costs to much etc.
  2. Flowers planted around the front of the house.
  3. Clothes.
Any other suggestions?:nerves1

the magazine subscription sounds a good idea - different and something that will last a bit longer than chocolates, for example. makes note to ask for the same next year from own kids...

gift card(s) to place(s) she wouldn't normally spend money on herself-bath and body works, department stores(Macy's, Dillard's, etc), any crafting store(joann(e?)s, Michael's, etc) that she likes if she enjoys crafting or cards from local business that offer stuff like crafting, salon, spa, etc.
but my best advice? if you have a daughter, especially one over 10-12, ask her(even if she's not at home any more, she will still probably have a idea if she talks to her at all)!! especially if she and your wife are reasonably close she should have a great idea of what her mom wants, maybe even something she's seen her looking at or talking about......
no idea about your family situation(ie, kids/ages to help you, etc) so that's about all i got at the moment!
hope that helps a bit :p

I went yesterday to a glass shopp with things for like, new baby , first communion and candle holders and I found a stone plaque for her.
I like that idea because she could put it wherever she wants.

I really like the magazine subscription idea. A few years ago, my best friend got me a subscription to a magazine I liked but didn't want to spend the money for. I have renewed it every year since, and I still think of her every time it comes in the mail.

I got my mom an art print, and framed it.
A few weeks ago, I was at the craft store, and randomly browsed through their art racks, which I rarely do. They had a package that had two small prints of artwork from the Anita Jeram book "Guess How Much I Love You." My mom gave me a copy of that book many years ago. (She has always collected "rabbit things," long before I ever had pet bunnies.) I know the Big Nutbrown Hare and Little Nutbrown Hare characters are supposed to be father and son, but it's such a sweet story, and I've always identified the book with my mom.
So last week, I got a coupon for the store, and went in to get those prints. There were also some nice frames on sale, so I got two frames while I was there. One print will be for my mom, and I will keep the second one.

Dave, do what I did for Nate for Valentine's Day...
Go get a bag of Hershey kisses, and cut long thin strips of white paper. Glue/tape them on the "tags" and write a favourite memory, promise (eg. good for 1 foot rub), funny nickname, etc.

I bet she'd really love it!
You can sometimes find some lovely perfumes on Clearance ($20) at the drugstore. Or, ask if you can buy the tester (only a few squirts gone, still good, half the price :) )

Good-smelling hand lotion or body butter.. Manicure set? Maybe YOU could do a manicure? (not too hard, you can do it :) )

Mixed CD of some of her favourite music?

Thoughtful handwritten card by YOU (not Hallmark :) )

That is the most amazing idea ever, but I'm saving it for my girl's B-day. Yay!

Well, I presented three things to her when we went out last Wednesday.

  1. Magazine subscription.
  2. Flowers for the front of the house.
  3. Minor kitchen remodeling she has been after me for.
Friday night I asked her what she wanted, she had shown a lot of interest in the magazine subscription. I was prepared to get on the Internet and order one, but then she did a 180 on me and went with flowers for the landscaping out front. Not just any flowers, some that you have to special order. I have no idea what kind they are but something she really wants. So today, I will be ordering them for her.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Now I am ahead of the game for her birthday in August!
