My mini lop had 5 babies a few daysago. Today I found all 5 of them dead in the box.Can someone give me some information on the behavior of themom. This is her 2nd litter as the first litter did justfine. She had 4 in the first and all but 1 werefine. 1 developed some type of infection which affected itsneck in which it wasnt able to hold up its neck.

Any information or links on this behavior would be greatly appreciated. I enjoy them and love to breed them.

Thanks

I'm sorry to hear your kits died. :(

There are some very wonderful and educated people on this board that will undoubtedly help you find out what happened.

I am just asking in general. What wouldbe things that may cause the doe to possibly hurt her youngbabes? They were all healthy looking and good size kits andyes it broke my heart :(when I checked on her this am andthey were all dead. I want to keep breeding, but not sure ifthis will be a future occurance or maybe a 1 time thing. Imay check into purchasing an additional female. At this timeI have just the buck and doe. Thanks all for the support andhelp.

Thanks all for all the advice. I didcall a local breeder today and he did say that she may of gottenconfused. She didnt have the babies in the nesting box andmay have been confused and not fed them. I still feel so badfor her. She did such a wonderful job delivering them as Iwas there for her while she delivered. She did deliver themon the wire cage. I will breed again and just keep a closereye out for her and her kits. She had 5 beautiful babies 3black and 2 broken.

There isnt any threat for her. She is in my garage and iswell protected. This is where she had the first litter ofbabies. Right now she doesnt even seem to notice that theyare gone-which leads me to think that she wasnt quite aware that theywere there.

Once again, thanks for the advice. I am very happy that Istumbled onto this site. Everyone in their own way seems veryknowledgable.

Hi Cindy,
i have a question hon, you saidshe didnt have them in a nest Box yes? she has them in a hair nestoutside a box ? by chance did you pick up the babies and then put themin a nest box?? if she didnt see where they went too she may have notabandoned them but missplaced them , this is common and one reason if adoe doesnt have babies in a nest box i leave them where they are unlessthey have been born on the wire and i make sure the Mom knows where thenest box is .

She had the box all ready for birthing. She had all her hair pulled and a nice little bed for herkits. She did have them on the wire and yes I did put them inthe nesting box. She didnt have any hair out on the wire andwas scared that they would fall through the wire. I will haveto watch and just make sure she is ok the next time around. Thanks
