Hi everyone thankyou for letting me join , gladto be here, i have manybunnies some ready to kindlesome already kindled , most are rescuestaken from very poorenvironments ,

My biggest problem for themoment is i have a femalerex almost a year old , shekindled on 1 /20 and asoftoday weaned her babies they are not evena month old yet , is thisnormal or something ishould worry on , i haveremoved them from hercage as she was beatingthem horrably , they are insidewith me and beingpartially bottle fed , is this normal? my larger Lop femalewho kindled last month didnt startweaning till 5 weeks old ? thanksfor your t ime

Are the kits nibbling on solids yet? If not thenI would be concerned but if they are able to eat hay and pellets anddrink water I would think they should be fine. I have heard of does notnursing after three weeks with no ill results on the babies. She couldjust be a crabby mom who is wanting her alone time. You could try tobring the babies to her in the early morning or later in the evening tosee if she will nurse. You can also hold her and let the kits nurse.

I would base my descion on how much the kits are eating regular food.

Good luck and Welcome to the forum! I am sure you will get some otherresponses soon. The picture of the kits is very cute, it is great thatyou have rescued these animals from poor conditions.

In cases of early weaning, I top off the babiesfeed with a little calf manna (milk pellets) and rolled oats.Babies can actually do quite well at this age, but stress very easilyso should never be sold this young (as some pet store dealers do).

I had an early weaning this summer. The doe had swollen nipples from nine biting babies and just couldn't take it anymore.

They're all fine, separated from mum at 5 wks. (she was going mad withall the begging babies) and separated from siblings at 9 wks. She wasso frustrated I was afraid she'd hurt them. They were eating solidsjust fine.

One of the babies, at 6 mo. or so....

As you can see, he's as healthy as a horse and no ill effects from early weaning.

Are these 'accident' litters or purpose litters?

If they are purpose litters Isuggest not tobred this doe again. ;)

She doesn't seem to be 'mother material'. ;)

Thanks! Bub is quite spoiled, my big golden boy. Definitely thepampered "crown prince" of my little herd, Bub is the son of my belovedBunbun and a borrowed doe, Tank. Purebred Palominos are pretty rare inmy area, so I had to borrow the doe from a local breeder for a fewmonthsin exchange fortwo kits from her litter.Bunbun died a few days before his babies were born, at 8.5 yrs. old, from a vet's mistake. Nine little Bunbuns all survived and thrived, andBub is nowa magnificent young Palomino who will hopefullysire a Pal litter of his own someday and improve the local breedingstock. There's been WAY too much Pal inbreeding locally because of verylimited breeding animals.

Oh, did I forget to mentionthedoeactuallyweaned at 3 wks.?? Whoops! I separated them from mum at 5 wks.,but shestopped feeding themby 3 wks. So the same asyours then, except they stayed with mum for two more weeks afterweaning.

Can't wait to see baby pics!!!!
