My Mini Lop doe is 7 months old, and had her first litter 3 weeks ago. Everything was well, until I noticed a day or two ago the mom stopped eating. She is still drinking and she ate some watermelon I gave her, but she's lost a lot of weight really quickly and I'm worried she's not feeding her babies :( . It's weird, but her stomach is still nice and round even though the rest of her is bony; does this mean she has a retained kit? What is wrong with her and what can I do for the babies if she dies?? Thanks in advance!

I'd try canned pumpkin [not spiced, maybe baby food], critical care, etc.

I would think a retained kit would have caused a problem in the 1st week or 2. If it's stasis, baby-formula simethicone drops should be added to the water, plus tummy rubs.

A vet visit is also indicated, if possible. The kits can, I understand, can be fed with kitten replacement formula. Or goat's milk, I think.

I think you should take her to the vet. You dont want her to die and you dont want to be left with 7 kits to care for with no mom, thats a lot of work. From the reading that ive done i have come to the conclusion that babies can be fed KMR or goats milk but usually only those with experience have survivors.

Good luck.

I agree that a visit to the vet is in order. At 3 weeks, the kits should already be nibbling on hay and pellets. At this age, if they had to go without Mom's milk, you could give them some KMR. Justmake sure theyalso have pellets and hay to eat.

Thank you everyone for the replies I took her to the vet today it seems she has a dental problem which is why she's not eating, and the vet noticed drooling. Nothing is wrong with her teeth so I suspect it's an absess :/ they are planning to operate on her.

Please keep us updated! Hopefully everything goes smoothly and she can come home to her kits happy and feeling better :)
