Hello again !

So my bunny seems to be getting better once I gave him bedding, but now he's acting up in pretty weird ways!
I've learned that grunting, thumping and lunging usually means that you're doing something wrong, and I know ways to calm them such as ttouch and gently reassuring them that there is nothing to worry . . . But all of these signs I've learned as bad, seems to be totally flipped with my Max!

While he's alone, once I've given him bedding, he's been grunting and making noises. When I look in on him, he's playing around with the bedding, throwing it and pushing it in all sorts of directions. When he sees me coming, he grunts loudly and thumps, and when I put my hand in, he lunges at me. Which I know should mean generally defensive things.

But that's where it gets weird. He thumps constantly when I sit near him but he knows I'm no threat. He grunts very loudly . . . and then tries jumping out of the pin to get to me! He always fails to do so but it doesn't deter him so he constantly pokes his head up and sniffs at the air. The second I touch him after he lunges towards my hand, where I would expect him to bite or give another warning thump, he instead rolls over onto his side and starts purring! Which is something he often does when I start petting him. When I don't touch him, and try ignoring it, he runs around the pin in circles and keeps trying to poke at me with his nose!

So I would pet him for a good while, but where I must do things, I go off to do something away from the pin, and he would start grunting, thumping, and poking his head up, looking around all over the place! Then tries getting out of the pin again once he sees me. But of course once I take him out, he doesn't know what to do or where to go so he just sort of stays in one general area and constantly grunts and when I come back he starts grunting louder, thumping and bumping me with his nose! He's also starting to grunt a lot when he's given a carrot or something- sometimes even with just his pellets.

I think I read something that bunnies sometimes grunt out of excitement, but never really the thumping and lunging . . . He's never done any of this before! I'm not totally sure what to make of it. He also gently licks, nuzzles and nips my fingers, particularly my fingernails. It never hurts or anything, but it's a little confusing what he's trying to say!

--I would think this is an aggressive stance, but you say-no,-he is trying to communicate his feelings, and warning you of something different perhaps he is overdoing it with affection,--this is interesting-he definitely wants your attention--I believe he is claiming you as his property--try this link http://www.bunnybunch.org/rabbitcare1.html sincerely james waller :bunny19:brown-bunny:pinkbouce::sunshine::bunnydance::p

Yes! I'm 100% positive he is male. I'm guessing it means something for female rabbits then? If that's the case, I'm not completely sure what to say to explain it! But I do know he is a male . . . :ponder:

do you think he is courting you? I know when breeding rabbits males sometimes court the girls. They will thump, lunge about, some will drop and roll...and when you have two bunnies doing that it's just funny and then a bit annoying. :)

I would have to wonder if he's courting you in a rather prolonged fashion.

Has he been neutered?

That would be very funny and adorable if so. It's a possibility, I guess! At first I thought he didn't like all these scents on me or something, since I probably come home with all sorts of crazy smells on me. But now he isn't stopping- It's definitely something to think about. Though I must say, it's weird that he would do this to me and not my mother or my friend Cher, because I'm actually male, and those are the only two girls around him. He's a very weird bunny, that's for sure. But I'm starting to rule it as him just overdoing his affections for me. We haven't had money to get him neutered, since the costs for things of that nature get overly expensive this time of the year- So I'm planning on doing that some time in the spring. But until then I guess all I can really do is sit back and laugh at how he acts! :bunny18
