How do bunnies get dust/fur mites?

There are actually many different species ofmites. Common dust mites in the US are Dermatophagoidesfarinae. This species feeds on organic material in homesincluding human skill cells that are shed naturally -- they do not liveon rabbits, but may be found in the rabbit's habitat.

OH MY!! Pam, some of those storiesincluded in your links are heartbreaking! How can someoneneglect or abandon their sweet bunny like that?GEEZ!! Those pictures are shocking! I couldn'tbelieve those rabbits were still alive! Wow! Thanksso much for sharing!

It's very sad. These people oftenstart out with the best intentions of taking care of their pet, but thenovelty eventually wears off and they no longer take care of theanimal. This is one of the reasons I don't do many pet sales.
