As many of you know, I have 2 Doxies, Sam, my Black and tan mini, that I have had for almost 4 years, since he was almost a year old, and Sunshine, my standard sized red Doxie, shes been with us almost 2 years.
Friday they were out roaming the yard all day, as per their usual. Blake cleaned out his truck around 4, a friend came by around 5, and that's the last time any of us saw Sam. We figured either he found a hole to worm his way out of the fence.. or one of the neighborhood brats who thought he was so cute, let him out the walk through gate.
Surely we thought he would be back when it got chilly and his tummy got rumbly. Sammy never missed a meal.
We fed bunnies in the rabbitry.. I stayed up all night, literally, drove the neighborhood several times, walked it a million times it seems.
Blake was up the next morning, ready to resume the search, but he went to go feed bunnies first. I guess cause Sammy was so black, and it was so shadowy in the rabbitry, we didn't see his body underneath the cages.
He had the power cord to the huge barn fan in his mouth, and he was a bit contorted, and when when we went to remove it, it even gave me a bit of a jolt.
My consolation is he most likely went rather quickly, Russell said probably instantly.
Still doesn't make me feel any better.
Death sucks.
And I hate it.
Sam had been in the rabbitry a billion times, been in and out of there and around that fan/cord prolly 20 times a day. What possessed him to do that I wonder.
Ponderous indeed.
So.. in tribute to the best danged Doxie ever..
