OK so I'm a shop assistant at Clarks shoe shop, and I've been working there since April last year, shortly after I turned 16.

Today I was working the late night shopping shift (we stay open till 8) with my Manager, its the only shift I share with her, and she asked me if I'd like to go on a trial basis for the next few weeks of being a sort of Team Leader/Supervisor. Basically, the girl who used to run the shop on my Sunday shift, Emma, left at the end of last month. They got a new guy to take her place, Joe, who transferred from another shop. Thing is, he is a Kids department person. He rarely works on the adult floor, knows little about the shoes and products etc, whereas I am the opposite and have never worked on the kids floor! (They are very different!). Since Emma left, we have had Joe being the official 'in charge' guy, opening the store, in charge of cash etc. We have had a girl called Laura looking after the adult floor. She is leaving for uni next week, this Sunday will be her last shift. They've basically asked me to take her place, running the adult floor, staff, jobs, stockroom, lunches and making decisions about things like discounts for odd shoes, complaints etc. I will have Joe upstairs to help but I'll be in charge of the shop floor downstairs and be 'second in command' in whole shop!

I'm very excited. She said its on a trial, but if it goes well I may be able to be made an official supervisor for next year, which would mean I would be opening the whole shop every week etc... but I'm not allowed to hold the keys and be fully in charge until I turn 18 in January...

Yay for me!

Not sure about the pay rise, I'll have to ask some of the other girls. I think technically I should, seeing as more things are going to rest on my shoulders, I just won't necessarily be doing them... i.e I get to tell people to clean the shop etc and if its not done I'll get in trouble the next day. I know I get a payrise when it comes to opening and closing the shop, but I'm not sure about just being in charge of one floor. I hope so, I get paid pittance!

Congrats! Even if it doesnt come w/ an immediate payraise, hopefully you will show them your AWESOME and you will get all that you deserve & then some soon! It's always exciting for people to recognize you at work, yay!

This is wonderful - congratulations! I'm sure you'll do great and you'll wow them.
