One of the family kitties has run away :(. They usually never leave the backyard. I have checked the trees and yelled for her for the past few days. I hope she turns up soon. It is hard to put up flyers and stuff...most people won't turn a cat in to the shelters here.

This cat was special to Ryan's mom because on Christmas Eve two years ago, Ryan's dad brought home a tiny kitten that showed up at his office. So, they named her "Merry", as in, "Merry Christmas".

Ryan's dad died in February of '06 :cry4:.

Now we have one kitty, "Boy KeeKee" or "Marvin".

Im so sorry.

When my cats are out and we want to get them back in, we shake the treat (or we sometimes trick them and just shake the food bag :p) and they will come running.

Maybe take a walk around where you live and shake it?

Good luck!

Miss Merry Merry has come home, and is now stricly a house kitty.

Well, she didn't come home on her own. Ryan's mom came home from work for lunch and was yelling for her outside. She heard loud kitty screams, kept calling her name, and followed the cries. The cries led her over to the neighbor's house. They has a small crawlspace under their house, that Merry managed to get into, but couldn't get back out because a peice of wood had blocked her way out.

She was extremely thirsty and hungry, and probably trapped under the house all week.

Ryan's mom was hysterical with tears as she told me and all the ladies at work. Merry is her last connection with Mark (Ryan's dad who passed), besides her kids....but Merry is very special to her.

Oh Thank Goodness she found her! I always worry that a cat will get caught in a garage or something like that!

She wants to go back outside so badly, but that's not happening :).

I'll try to get some pictures of the kitties tomorrow :D.

Im glad your cat was found and I TOTALLY understand you wanting to keep her as a housecat (I have 3 housecats) but unfortunatly you cant turn an outdoor cat into a house cat; she will always want to go out and will be depressed and miserable if you keep her in. Imagine suddenly waking up one morning and never being able you can never leave the house again with no idea why.

I would give her a day to settle herself down after her ordeal but then resume her normal outdoor routine.

From the senario you have decribed she isnt a cat that naturally wants to wander and disappear for days on end but she just got herself in a pickle.

I've had kitties that I've converted to indoor cats...and I do have to say that, while they still had that desire to go outside (we would feed them treats in the opposite end of the house to leave without them snaking their way out the door), they did adjust rather well to being indoors.

Just be sure to give Merry lots of interesting, fun toys and things to do. Paper grocery bags are fun to hide in (and EVERY cat loves the sound they make), things on strings at the end of poles are fun, there's a toy where there's a ball in a circular tunnel thing, where their paw JUST fits in the hole so they can move it, but they can't get it out. That might be a fav with her. You can also get all sorts of balls & such. Just browse around the kitty aisle. Also, something she might like...there are cardboard clawing things that are simply cut cardboard pieces with some catnip that you sprinkle inside...my kitties have always LOVED those! We haven't bought them recently, though, because we've been trimming their claws (for the buns).

Maybe get a kitty tree and/or condo for her to jump around and lay on (sometimes they have toys hanging from an upper level).

Just make her environment really stimulating, and she'll be able to get her mind off of ONLY wanting out. Give her a couple weeks...she'll adjust...

:biggrin2:

And, if you need any help...feel absolutely free to PM me. :D
