[sub]So, I am sitting in the living room and Ryan comes in and says...."Giiiiirrrrl, I just found this sick deal on a Crate Blue Voodoo guitar head. I must have this. It is only $415, slightly used, and brand new they are $800. Can I buy it?".

HOOOOOOOOOLD UPPPPPPPP!!!

So, I sit there thinking.....*What the fudge, dude? You want to spend $415 on impulse because of a siiiiick deal...but yet you threw a fit when I wanted to spend $140 on a stinkin' rat cage?*

Keep in mind this is the same guy who said I shouldn't buy the new rat cage because I should use our money towards things we truly need and finishing my bunny chest piece tattoo. Also, keep in mind we are having a small wedding in May. We also have some credit card debt that we are getting payed off, so that we can buy our rings and pay for some of the wedding stuff, so that the total number in the end of it all doesn't make me want to faint.

I told him no way because we just don't need to spend that kind of money right now, even though I truly do know he has been dying for this particular guitar head and the deal really is killer.

So, he says...."If I can buy this, then you can buy your Canon Rebel xsi."

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!

*Now you bargain with me? Can I slap you in the face?*

Ugh, he is ordering the guitar head right now. I suppose I better buy the Canon Rebel before he changes his mind. I might just choke him one day :p. He comes up with the craziest ideas and impulses. I am not worrying about the money right now, he always tells me to chill out about money and go with it....so...whatever...I'll go with it :craziness.

We get $700 back from the security deposit from our old house in January, we might even get $850 if our old landlord will give us back the cleaning deposit because the house is spotless. That will pay for his guitar head and most of my Rebel.....kinda like "free money"...which he didn't understand that my rat cage was "free money" because I sold a dog kennel. Of course, if I explain that getting the security deposit back is kind of like "free money" because we already paid it and aren't missing it.....he will end up understanding because he gets something out of it :rollseyes.

My husband is SUPER cheap. Which is actually good, because it means he's got some money socked away in the bank, where I manage to not even notice when I spend money. I would never be able to buy a house, but he's got a nice nest egg building. (He also makes a bit more money than I do, has a low car payment and no credit debt. I make less, have a high car payment, and more credit debt than I care to admit, though I'll be seriously working on that in the new year.)

So I saw some artwork I really want, but it's expensive. I keep going into the store to see if it's on sale. If a salesperson ever approached me while I was looking at it, I might ask for a discount (it's 3 pieces that sort of go together) if I buy all 3.

So yesterday he said, if you want it, just buy it. I said I can't afford it, it's too expensive, and he offered to pay 2/3 of it.

A little torn, because I want it. But it really is too much money when we should be saving. I said we'll go back the weekend after Christmas and see if it's still there, and make a decision then.

But I know he's been putting of buying some things he wants that cost less than the art I want, so we probably won't get it.

I'm not saying I've ever been good with money, but…

Waaay back when I was married, my husband was a freakish impulse buyer. We'd go to a hardware store for nails and come out with 3 or 4 bags of things we didn't need. We'd eat outat least 3times a week because he enjoyed to eat out (not that I complained; any reason to not cook was fine with me…and he worked as a cook, so he never wanted to do so at home). He was always getting new this, new that…and our credit card was always maxed to the teeth. Our chequing account had overdraft protection because he was always buying beyond what we had, and a few times he went over that limit; it just made temptation that much greater to him. (To this day I refuse to have overdraft protection.) We were in debt to the tune of over $10,000, and this was back in the late 70s.

Final straw came one day when he came home from work a bit late, but he wasn't driving our truck (which, btw, was less than two years old and was much of the reason for our debt.) "Come outside and see this!!" he called to me. So I did. There in our parking space was in a fire-engine red, dual gas tank, passenger bench in the back, extended cab truck. Omigod. I couldn't believe it. "We can afford it", he kept saying. "It'll come in handy if ever we're running low on gas, if ever we need to drive someone, if". If, if, if. That's all I heard. And dollar signs and bankruptcy was all I saw. So I looked at him - all 6'2" of him to my 4'11" - and said, "Take…it…BACK. NOW."

He took one look at my face and never said another word…just sighed, got in the truck, and drove it back to the dealership. I think he knew I would've killed if he had spoken at that moment. I could've gotten away with it too…justifiable homicide.

I feel for ya, undergunfire. ;)

Will does that, too. He owes me money, but gets mad when I tell him he shouldn't buy the $50 sword set (that we have no room for). Men, I swear...

Woooah....Ryans not that bad, bassetluv :p. I assume he is your ex, now?!

I am looking online now for my camera. The cheapest I am finding it on Ebay with the lens and extra goodies is $600 with Buy It Now. I was hoping for around $500. I could bid, but I will probably lose.

I shouldn't buy it, but I'll need it sooner or later for photo classes at college.

I'm sure you know to be extra careful buying a camera on Ebay. Cameras and computers are two of the biggest fraud categories there. Read the listing carefully to make sure it is not refurbished or coming from China. Use www.toolhaus.org to read all the negative feedback. Personally, I wouldn't buy from anyone with less than 99% feedback when dealing with electronics.

I don't want to insult you if you already knew this, but just felt I needed to throw it out there.

For cameras and lens, I would buy from a reputable store and make sure the warranty comes with it. If you bought a camera that is in the grey market, you would not be covered if anything happens to the camera.

I always check out this link for prices ...
http://www.photoprice.ca/

and I can get my local store to match the lowest price posted on the link. :)

Oh Amy....Art & I used to do that all the time - bargain - you can get this if I get that. Problem was....both of us were horrid with money - so we bargained ourselves right into bankruptcy....bad bad move.

Funny thing is - I *almost* pulled this on Art the other night- there was something I wanted - so I was going to offer him X amount of dollars (equal amount). In fact I did so.

Then I thought about it - and said, "Sorry hon..but we're both gonna do without - we don't need it..".

I know you're excited about getting a camera - I guess what I am trying to say is - don't let this become a habit for both of y'all. I know you try to be so good with the money....manage it well, etc. You'll probably do just fine ... its just my overly-cautious nature kicking in.

I'd hate to see you get to the place Art & I were in (and he was in the military with a regular paycheck)....

Do let us know what camera you get though....

Don't worry, Peg, he usually never bargains with me :p. I just know he has been dreaming of this amp head and he knows I have been dreaming of the Canon Rebel....so I guess he was trying to be nice ;)?

I try not to worry about money too much anymore because it just makes me sick. Work is slow right now, so money is tighter. Once we hit around March, then I will be back up to working 40-50 hours a week and the paychecks will be awesome again. Garrett is also moving in in January and will pay us $250/month for rent....so that totally helps, plus we get 3 paychecks instead of 2 in January :D.

I am now waiting to see if I can get the camera for a better deal at a store, taking Stan and Patti's advice. I wonder if the price will drop on Friday at Best Buy? I'm not really in a hurry to buy it, but I do have to be patient, lol!

I buy a lot on ebay, but when it comes to an expensive camera I really feel you should go to a retail store. After Christmas should see some awesome sales.

I'm an Ebay shopper, too, but I didn't think I would have to worry about cameras. I just saw the price compared to Best Buy and thought it was a killer deal. I hope sales will happen at Best Buy or Sears!

We looked up the prices and called Best Buy, they said that the camera will be the same price on Friday, just like it is today. Ryan just went to get it.

Best Buy sales generally start on Sunday and run through Saturday.
I think they will do a price adjustment up to 30 days after your purchase, so keep an eye on the price for the next month, and if your camera goes on sale in that time you should be able to take your receipt in for a price adjustment.
