Hey guys, I thought I'd introduce one of my newest rescues, Skyler.

A lady called me on Tuesday, and said that she needed immediate homes for some animals, as her 10 year old son was deathly allergic. Skyler, along with a rat, and two cats, were found abandoned. She cleans and guts out abandoned houses for a living, to make them ready for rennovation or to be demolished.

She was gutting out an abandoned house that was about to be demolished. It the back was an old barn, and she heard cats crying. She went out to investigate, and found two baby cats left locked in a kennel cage, a ferret left locked in a kennel cage, and a rat in a hamster cage, with its head severely stuck in some hamster piping.

The neighbor came over and claims he had been throwing the animals bread for about 3 weeks. Don't get me started on why he didn't call someone. The landlord of the house, (the previous owners were renting, from what we understand), came over a few minutes after the lady called him to explain the situation. He showed up with a shotgun and asked where she wanted them shot at. Of course, she argued him down and took the animals.

I took the ferret and rat, and the cats went to the local no-kill cat rescue.

The rat has head tilt from a bad middle ear infection, but I'm treating it. Skyler, the ferret, is shockingly healthy! She went to the vet yesterday to get her distemper and rabies shot, and a check-up. She's estimated at 6 months old, and weights a healthy 2 pounds.

I also rescued two rabbits from somewhere else, who were SUPPOSED to be put up for adoption, when a loving family couldn't keep them anymore. As soon as the family left, the rabbits were purchased for snake food. Of course, I intervened, and my friend Wendy took them to her rabbit rescue and put them up for adoption. If anyone needs a bonded pair of boy bunnies in the Louisiana area, check them out:

Here are some pictures of Skyler, she is SUCH a sweetheart and a lap ferret! As you guys can tell from the pictures, I went out and bought Skyler a huge 3 story ferret cage!

Aww, how cute! Those are great pics!

Someone told me ferrets were carnivorous and capable of eating rabbits. Is that true?

Don't let the bunnies get too close!

LOL, they arecarnivorous, but don't eat bunnies. Skyler loves to play with the dogs, and chases my brother's 2 pound chihuahua. When she catches her, she pounces on her, and then runs away, like she's playing tag. She's very playful and loveable. No bunny worries! But, either way, they won't be playing together anyways. :D

Wow, what a beautiful girl! I've always wanted one, but with the girls I really don't have the room to keep one now.

Is she at all smelly? I've never actually seen a live ferret, but I've heard that they're very musky, particularly hobs....

Spring, they eat ferret food high in protein and fat, and you can give them small pieces of meats like cooked chicken.

Hollie, the boys are a bit worse than the girls. Luckily Skyler is a girl, and so far she smells fine. Her hair has a SMALL bit of musky smell, but a little ferret baby power spray takes it right away. Her cage is right next to me, and I don't smell a thing.

That's good to know :D Like I said, I've been interested in ferrets for a while, but one of my worries was the smell. I've heard you can de-scent them, but that just sounds horrid and I wouldn't want to do it.

I agree...Skyler is ADORABLE!! You can tell by the looks on her face that she's a lovey-dovey. Why anyone would abandon such a wonderful baby is beyond me! I think the same thing about my Flower bunny CONSTANTLY...she's the friendliest little animal I've ever had, hands down!! I just don't get it!

Glad to hear everyone got a good home!! Poor babies...they must have been so miserable being abandoned by their humans like that. What jerks those humans must have been!! Good riddance, I say!! Humans like that don't DESERVE such wonderful animals like those!!

Awww you are such a wonderful kind person and you do really have a big heart,i can tell that you are very caring with all these unwanted animals, they are lucky to have found you,or you find them:)

Skyler looks so happy in those pictures, playing in her new cage and everything,
