Just got home from the rescue and there were so many cute buns. But Gracie stole my heart. She is 2 years old. I have no idea what breed/breeds she is. I have a feeling she is part lop because she has helicopter ears. Sometimes both up, sometimes one up and one down, and sometimes both halfway down. She weighs 10-11 pounds. She was bonded with a male before she was brought to the rescue. A dog got into the cage and killed her mate. Gracie made it out without a scratch. But because of this, she will charge you when you put your hands in the cage. Any advice on how to help her become more comfortable with this would be great! I am beyond excited to have her home and start her new life....here are some pics of her.

Aw so cute! Congrats, and good job for rescuing! I don't have much advice on the cage thing, I would just give her some time to get comfy first ;)

:adorable:What a great choice! :blueribbon:

I love her ears and dewlap! She is going to get so many kisses when she settles in.

I would give her a day or two just to get used to the cage and her surroundings. Perhaps you and Audriana can have story time in the same room so she can hear you reading out loud?

Once you are ready to start handling her I suggest long sleves and gloves. Do what you want to do and ignore the grunting, lunging, and hopefully not, but biting (hence the gloves). You can also feed her yummy things, like greens, by hand through the bars. She will come to understand your hands are not a threat and her throwing a fit doesn't help anything.

It may take a really long time for her to get over it since killing of her mate would have been horribly traumatic. You are so wonderful to give her another chance at a good life.

Thank Brandy. She is so sweet. Once you get her out of the cage she is amazing. She is a big cuddler. I picked her up and she layed on my chest with her head on my neck and was so sweet. They said she has never bitten anyone. She just charges you when you put your hands in the cage. Otherwise, she is perfectly sweet. I have no complaints :)

Oh she is darling and look at that dewlap! Congrats on her :)
Fraggles is also cage sour just cause she is Fraggles and that is her castle. I just do what Brandy said and go about my business with her growling and boxing at me. Eventually when she see's I am not going away she just puts her head down and waits to be petted.

Im going to have to get a big bag of craisins because they are her weakness. Thats how i got her out of her cage at the rescue. She came right to me when i gave her one. She hasnt eaten or drank anything yet, which is kind of worrying me but I am sure its because she is stressed. Hopefully she will calm down and eat

Sophie and Bunnicula both grunt and box. Bunnicula even niped me one time when I was trying to get her out from under my night stand. I pulled her out and rolled her on her back, then gave her a lecture about not biting the hand that feeds her. She still grunts and boxes but not another nip. I just pretend the grunts are conversational and chat back "Oh really, you want your dish there? How about I fill it up?" :p

That's great she is sweet out of the cage, sounds like she just was so violated that it is hard for her to have someone in her home space. Hopefully it will go away, but honestly I think the grunts are cute. :)

Congrats on the new rescue. She is a doll
I don't have much advice but hopefully time will heal all. Hopefully just sitting and talking to her will help and of course over time she will begin to trust.
