Hey guys!
A couple days ago, Maisie took the stack of newspaper we gave her, and spent the entire night ripping, and stuffing, and shredding, and moving things around. In the morning, we awoke to her having made a den-type construction out of the newspaper shreddies she'd made that night! She shredded an entire three or four sections of news paper (small sections, but nonetheless!), and stuffed them all under the first level of her cage! This is where she normally likes to sleep, but now she's made so much stuffing there that you can't really see her when she's in there! It's like a little den! I mean, it's cute...but why did she do this?
I haven't seen any fur around in there, so I don't think its a phantom pregnancy, or anything, but I just want to be sure she's okay. I looked in there today, and she had quite the upset look on her face! I didn't open her cage...just looked in through the front to say hello like I usually do, and she had the look she usually gets when she's defending her turf.
Is this just a hormonal "leave me alone" thing? Should I be worried? Should I just leave the space alone?
We're planning on taking her in to get spayed within the month, so if this is just a hormonal thing, then that'll get handled with her getting spayed, right? I'm just a bit worried, as she's not been quite this neurotic before, not to mention how "keep away from me" she's being.
Anyone have any thoughts?
