My MIL wanted me to look up some info about herBlue and Gold Macaw. There isn't much help out there, so I figured Iwould turn to my "rabbit friends" as usual. :DThe bird's beakis getting pretty long, and she wants to avoid a trip to the vet. Thebird doesn't like cuttlebones, and she isn't much of a chewer. She doesovergroom and is bald on her tummy, legs, and shoulders. Isthere something my MIL can do to help her get that beak under control?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've dremmeled one of my parrots overgrown beaksbefore. They don't like it much, but it works! First though, you needto find out why your mom's macaw's beak is growing funny. It's notuncommon, but it's not normal, either. There can be diet issues(deficiencies) or other things causing it. If you have a goodrelationship with your vet- they can do the beak trimming the firsttime for you and show you how to do it from then on.

Good luck!
