Hiya, I have a concern about my rabbit Maisy. she's about 6-7 month old and I thnk she is a French Lop. I noticed earlier today it looks like she's got a lump about the size of a golf ball at the front of her throat. Is this normal for a French lop? I've seen pictures of some lops on google where they seem to have a long lump of fat or something there but this is more like a ball.

I will post a photo of it up when I manage to get one of her. I haven't tried to touch it yet because she can be quite hostile at the moment towards anyone. She doesn't live with any other rabbit if this helps.

Any ideas would help,

Thanks
Jaynie

This is possibly a dewlap. If you go to http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=3940391&adTarget=&SessionID=441b4f and look at the second picture, the rabbit has one under her chin. If it is soft, and squishy, like fat covered with fur, it's a dewlap. Many larger breed female rabbits have dewlaps, such as Minilops, French Lops, Californians and New Zealands. It is used for the female to pull fur from when she makes a nest. :nod

If you feel any lumps or bumps in it, then it'd be best to have it checked out.

Hope I helped

Do you have a picture? I agree that it sounds like you're describing her dewlap, but I'd definitely try and get my hand on it to make sure it's not something abnormal.

I do not know how to post pictures but I have 2 pictures uploaded & one is a brown mini rex. She has a large dewlap. If anyone can tell me how to post the pix...
