Do lop eared rabbits require any "extra" attention paid to their ears? Are they prone to ear infections or anything of the sort?

What are the pro's/con's of having a lop eared rabbit, in your experience or opinion?

English Lops are more prone to rips and tears.

After over 20 years of raising Holland Lops, I've never had them experience ear problems or require any extra earcare.

I have never had to do anything special with Sooty or his ears, i do occasionally look at them and inside (just the outer w here i can see) and make sure there isnt a smell or anything coming from there, lol.

Thanks guys!

I know they are lops, and not the larger (velveteen or english) breeds but offhand I don't know how to recognize very many rabbit breeds.

Is the Mini Lop a breed or a size? I was told they are mini lops but have never been clear about it.

Compared to dogs, some breeds have different sizes for the same breed: Standard, Miniature, Toy etc... (but then there are quirks like the Papillon/Phalene - Norfolk/Norwich *same breed, different ear stance*) so is that how it is in lop rabbits?

:baghead

They aren't small or large, just regular in sized. I can tell a body structure difference between them and Ibimi (my dutch) but they are kind of comparable in size to her now that she isn't so obese.

More pictures of them are in the blog:

Could someone tell me their color/marking names? The white guy has a black line on his back, pretty cute! All are verypleasing look-wise, IMO.

My Penny is a mini lop and she would tell you that yes, her ears require extra care, like extra rubbings just behind them at least twice daily:biggrin2: Other than that, she is no different than my other uppy eared bunny. I look in both their ears every so often just to make sure they look good.

And I believe that mini lop is the breed. They are a bit bigger than the holland lops (at least in the US). My mini lop is about 6 lbs.but I think the range is 4-6 lbs. They are adorable. I've always loved the orangey ones (can you tell I have no clue what the color is called?):p
