When I got Q, I got her one of the smallest cat litter boxes. It fits wonderfully in her little cage (which is almost never closed). It was the only one that fit in the cage.

It worked well for a while. However, her butt has gotten too big (okay, the rest of her has too). Now that she's a teenager and has stopped growing, she misses the litterbox and pees over the side of it.

The next size box won't fit in her cage. I've tried putting up cardboard around it, but she likes to move the cardboard. Any suggestions on how to make the box taller, or something that would work as a taller litterbox? Thanks!

When I had Pebbles, her litter box was fairly shallow, so I put it in a cardboard box with higher sides. If you can imagine, the litter box fitting in a cardboard box with higher sides so her bum won't stick over the edge.

Good ideas. Thanks. I'll be trying some of those out. I think I should be able to get a cardboard box pretty easily.

Ummm... get a bigger cage?

Or you could try using Coroplast to either modify your existing box, or build a custom one. It's not too costly, and should be available at most large hardware stores.

Since the cage is almost never closed you could make it never closed, convert it to a bed, and get a larger box to put on the outside. That is what I ened up doing with my cage. It's now just a bed.

:yeahthat:
I saw a similar idea somewhere (probably elsewhere on this forum). Someone had one of those cages with the plastic bottom and wire top. When their bun outgrew that cage, they took the wire top off and turned the entire base into a littler box, then surrounded that with an exercise pen for containment. If that's the kind of cage you have, it's something to think about.

My bunn is a free roamer, but I do need to contain him occasionally, so I use and Ex-Pen to keep him in the kitchen or bedroom as needed.
