I have two dwarf mix rabbits that I got two days ago. They are about three or four months old. I am wondering about litter training and I bought a litter box kit for their cage. They seem to poop while eating so I thought of putting they hay holder over the litter box. Someone else on the forum wrote that they did this so I might try it. I was reluctant because I have read that their food should be in a different place in the cage than the litter box. What do other people think of this idea?

What are some good recommendations for litter? The kit I bought has Critter Litter with it, but I am sure that gets expensive as it is a specialty item. Does anyone use the Carefresh bedding only in the litter box? I'm not sure if something else would be better for controlling odors.

Carefresh gets really expensive after a while and I don't know how it does with smell. I, and a lot of others, use pine pellets. Like feline pine or equine pine. You can find them at Petsmart(feline pine) or at Tractor Supply(equine pine). They're very absorbent and they really help to control the odor. Plus, they're pretty cheap. I get mine from Tractor Supply and pay like $5 for a 40 or 50 lb bag. I really like them, the bag lasts me months.

I put hay directly in the litter box. I change the litter box every other day, I put a lot of hay in the box and she eats all of it. I don't have anywhere to put a hay rack, so thats part of the reason I just put the hay in the box. Her pellets are away from the box though. I think a lot of us put the hay directly in the box, its easier I think.

I put hay on one side of the litter box and my guy will poo and pee on the other side while he is eating, works well! Pellets are in a different area of the cage.
