Hello everyone,

I would like to start litter training Devon because he urinates andpoops everywhere. The poop isn't a big deal because it is easy to pickup, but the fact that he pees everywhere severly limits where I cantake him in the house. I would love to give him more freedom, but Idon't want to have to clean up pee every five minutes.

So...

Devon is 3 months old and not fixed. Is he too young to litter train?Or is the fact that he is unfixed a problem? Do you guys think that Ican start training now, or is it a lost cause until he is 5-6 mos. andneutered?

Thanks a lot,

I don't think he's ever really tooyoung. Just start putting all his poop in his litter pan andpraising him for using the pan. It'll get easier once he'sbeen neutered. Or at least, that's what I've beentold. Mabel and Winston are both altered, and theymake a disgusting mess of their cage.

It's probably because he's in a newplace. Loki is 1 year old, neutered, and previouslylittertrained and he was absolutely awful the first 5 days orso. Thankfully, all pee and most poops have been in the boxthe last few days *crosses fingers*

You all are probably right, maybe he'll settledown because he's only been here 4 days. We're going to buy a big pentommorow so that he can get out all that pent up energy.

Thanks,

It'll get better. Keely is 3 monthsand she's doing well in hers, it took a few days..but she's doing muchbetter...I don't trust her really out and about yet...it'll come withtime. I started all mine right away and Corky and Homer wereyounger when I got them...it may not come right away as from what Iunderstand it gets better with age, and with neuter.

Also the frequency of urination will get better with age. Hang in there, it'll be worth it!

i have an 8 weekold and a 12 week old whotrained themselves to the litter box , Idont think there is such a thing as tooyoung to teach them , Most ofthe Mothers I have here madesure the babies once out of the nest 2 weeks oldwere using a certain corner to dotheir deposits , no soiled nests this way ,and an easier clean up for me also .

I'm with Gypsy, it's never too early to starttraining them. However, it does become much easier once they are fixed. One of my rabbits used to poop and pee all over the place - but in thecage of course - and the day after we got him fixed he only went in thecage/litter box.

A water and vinegar solution works very well to clean up the pee spots too.

Does Amber use a litter box? When we got Vickyshe was not trained, but she mimics everything that Freddy doesincluding going into the litter box...she's only about 3 months and hasno accidents in the cage ... were still workin on the rest of thehouse, but its a start...........so maybe if you could get Devonwatching Amber it may help ....also you put a ton of litter boxesaround where you are letting him out and slowly take some away.......
