In an effort to keep my bunny and his cage clean (yes, I know this is probably close to impossible), I went to the pet store yesterday and bought some items that attach to the cage, so that he can knock over his food or get poop in it, and the hay doesn't go everywhere. Well I also bought one of those corner litter boxes that attach to the sides of a wire cage and has a grate.

I put Nibbles in his cage last night after I had changed everything around, so that he could have some time in there to get used to what and where everything was. This morning I woke up to find that Nibbles hadn't used the litter box at all. He had pooped all over the cage, but poor Nibbles hadn't peed all night. So I took the grate off the litter box this morning, and I figured that he will now use it. But I was actually really excited about him not being able to kick the litter everywhere. I guess that's not going to happen.

Has anyone here been able to get their bunny to use a litter box with a grate if the bunny wasn't really open to the idea to begin with?

How I never thought about that before I am interested to see answer as Storm is getting a greet soon for his litter box

I have never seen litter boxes that are actually sold with grates, so I am not sure what they are like (wire, plastic, etc.) My buns use litter boxes with fluorescent light cover plastic grates with no problem. Try putting hay in the litter box to coax him in.
