My comments? WOW. I really like this picture of her. I'd have her practice posing like this as much as possible (I'm sure you know that). With the US standards I think she'd do great - I don't know what your standards are like on lionheads.

So when is she moving to Texas????

My only concern - if I were to have one - would be her ears. They look really cute - but how long are they? That is the only thing I can think of - I like her look and it looks like she has good bone in her legs and stuff...

I'm dying to hear Pam's comments though..

Wow! She really looks awesome!

Ear trimmings are a DQ in the UK and wool more than 1/2 way of the ear is a DQ here and it does appear from the photo that her ears are wooled. The length of her ears appear to balance well with her size. Over 3 inches is DQ'd in the UK and I don't thing her's are anywhere near that.

Wool more than 1 inch in length between the eyes is a DQ here - I'm not sure about the UK standard on that.

She'd probably be faulted in the UK for the heavy flanking.

Her maneand type areWOW!

I went back and looked after reading Pam's note and she's right - I do see the wool on the ears now (I was so impressed with the third picture that I didn't look closely at the other two). You could still use her in a breeding program by taking her to a buck with slick ears.

Pam

It was hard to tell from the photos whether or not there was wool on the ears. At first glance, it looked like mane.

There is a little bit of wooling on the ears she is bred from a sm and a double mane but she is only 14 weeks just now so she will lose most of the flanking she has not even passed into her first moult yet. Not sure what happens with teh ears though! I am hoping to show her at the next show in Dunfermline in the under 5 months category so I will let you know the results!! ( they get lest away with more when they are still young)

Peg and Pam we are hating doing the lionheads or showing over here there are no 2 go on the table the looking same and the other breeder we show against up here has the fluffiest exhibits you have ever seen even as adults she does not tease the flanking fur out so they are fluffy all over!! Dougall my buck has a beautiful smooth coat but no where near as much mane as Lisa has!!

I saw a pic from the 5* Bradford show and teh table was full of so many differnet types how can you judge what is right and wrong! The other problem over here is all teh men hate them because the standards got changed to what teh women were breeding them to obviously not teh standard Lol,

Now if you have managed to get through my ramble lol what would be yoru suggestion to get rid of teh ear fluff ?? should I mate her back to a single mane?

I have a new litter due next monday so cross yoru fingers I get a buck lol.

Part of the reason for this wide variation in type that we also see here in the US is that the primary judging consideration is on the mane, not on the type. So breeders are workingmoreon"building a better mane". The UK standard only places 25 points on type.

The US standard addresses the wooly issue by DQing for lack of a break between the mane and flank and disqualifying for wool across the saddle.

I love the lionheads themselves and I can see where you are coming from Pam. Its not that I don't like them its mainly I think that there is such a set standard on teh netherlands whereas there are breeders putting lionheads on the show table with the saddle all the way up the back no smooth fur at all and these rabbits do not get put off the table and thats adult exhibits. The breeder who does it says she likes them fluffy the more fluffy the better!! so they hardly have any smooth fur over the back. Others have satin through them and all sorts.

I do get what you mean about getting the mane sorted and then type but with the size differences and everything else going on in this country i can't see how they are going to set a type. esp as none of the judges take them seriously!

I like her anyway I hope she does ok on the table. DO you know will the fur on her ears maybe go away a bit when she moults?

It may indeed moult out - we'll cross our fingers!
