Why aren't they a ABRA??
I mean why can't you show them?

** I wanted to get into these breeds but you cant show them.... *bummed*
They are so cute...

I am not sure who is telling you that you CAN'T show them - as many shows will still allow them.

They are in the process of becoming a breed with ARBA - I forget which breed it was that took over 10 years to become a breed...but it can take a long time.

Many shows will currently allow lionheads to be shown - as long as the "proposed working standard" by Theresa Mueller is given to the judges.

Theresa presents the lionheads before ARBA this fall - for her first attempt. She has to get them passed before the standards committee at least three times in five years (its a bit more complicated than that) - and for over five years- people have been saying she'll be the one to get them passed (there were two people ahead of her).

Once she passes a presentation - they will then be considered an "exhibition" breed and shows will HAVE to allow the colors that pass to be shown (but not considered for best in show, etc).

Most shows I know of - will welcome lionheads though...although I have heard of some that won't.

okay,, thank you so much on this info.... i really like the breed and wanted to get into them also but my aunt said i cant show them so dont buy any.. but you gave me this info... Thanks You again..
:thanks:

I wouldn't recommend that you get into them unless you've read the working standard - I shared it here recently on a lionhead thread.

I mean - as in - read it and STUDY it. Learn about the mane, the body type, etc.

I think the competition may be pretty stiff in some areas of the country.

Yeah...they are really messin up this breed. XD All the colors at nationals failed to. I heard they looked pretty bad type wise. So I wouldn't get into these unless they get this whole type thing sorted out. Everywhere I go they look so different.

yeah i have to agree... i like the breed i just dont have the time to piss with them...

I have shown them at arba shows. I think here in MN our shows aren't overly busy and they have always welcomed the lionheads. I love the breed and started working with them and hope they will pass someday. I figure in the next 3-5 years they will be accepted (fingers crossed) and by then I should have consistently great lionheads.

If you like the breed just get a pair of very good stock and work with them you can keep your herd small be only keeping the best and culling the rest.

I just have one pair and had a litter of 4 and I am only keeping one to breed back and will continue to breed the original pair. I have 2 other breeds accepted by arba so I can compete with those but I love the lionheads and will keep them for the long haul.

They are also very easy to pet out because they are small and so dang cute. I never have a problem finding pet homes for them
