Hi

Is this color a siamese sable?

Also I have a question about the male parts. I got this guy and they say his birth date is May but he has fully dropped big testicles. Can that be true or is he older. He was from the pet store so we know what kind of info they have sometimes......

here's the pics

Looks like a Sable Siamese to me, but could be completely wrong. I have seen 10 week old babies with all their hardware, but being from a petstore it could be that is older. The way we guess age here at the rescue is the back nails. We look to see if nails are pointy and sharp, that means they are still young like under 6 mos, and if the nails are blunt and rounded it means they are older then a year, but that is not at all accurate.

Yep, I bought a 10 week old wooly whose testicals had already dropped. LOL! It's not a definite indicator of age.

And yes, the color is siamese sable.

He looks about right for a rabbit born in May - and I love his coloring - very nice shading for a siamese sable.

I was quite shocked to see such a nice quality at a pet store. He has a great mane good ears and all over a very nice lionhead. The buck i have really lacks in the mane dept. So i needed a better buck and i have been looking at shows for a nice buck but I haven't seen one and the one I did like they wanted $75.00 for him and I decided to wait. I found this guy for 35.00 but no pedigree so i'll have to start from scratch or only offer a partial pedigree on the doe side. Oh well 40.00 is a big savings and i can use that for a new cage;) i know he came from a breeder because he had a tattoo in his ear already.

My only concern is - how long are his ears? You might want to measure those.

For that size lionhead - that's a goood length. I've heard Gail Gibbons talk about how she likes 1" of ear per pound of lionhead...to be more balanced.

Since she's the current COD holder and might get the breed passed...I listened to her on stuff like that.

Good luck!

that's good info. My little frosty/sable point marten? has hardly any mane but he has 2.5" ears but is also a small buck.

My tort doe has 3" ears but she is a big doe that is going to push her weight class....

my blue doe has 3.25" ears and she will probably be about 3 pounds so her ears are on the way bigger side.

I am thinking this new buck will be in the 3 pounds.

I really need to pick up a scale!

So....These are the 4 lionheads I have to start my breeding program and just not too sure how I should go about picking who to breed together? I could post some picks and see what you think

When breeding 2 double mane lionheads can you get too much fuzz? I read that Gail likes to use double mane bucks but didn't read if she always uses double mane does with them?

I am not even sure if my frosty? has the mane gene he doesn't have much of anything at 4 months (had more at 3 months) and just a couple wispys off his butt. I really like his head though too...nice and wide. I see alot of lionheads with the narrow head and I know that isn't good. My blue one has a narrow head...

I just really want to do this right.

thanks for any help.
