Heey everyone!

All my bunnies are doing great! The kits Jack & Rue are now 7 weeks and they are officially weaned :) I was going to wait until 8 weeks but they seem like they're ready. I bought a hutch today and put Jack & Rue in the new hutch and left Lila in her hutch. I've heard that it's less stressful for the kits if you keep them in thedoe's hutch and just move the doe out. Hopefully the way I did it will be alright :) Right now I have Lila, Jack, and Rue outside and Charlie in the garage. I still haven't decided if I'll put them in the garage for the winter. I bought acarbon monoxide alarmand so far the alarm hasn't went offso it's a possibility ;)

Also, I still haven't found a home for Jack :( I'm starting to get worried, but my cousin said she would adopt him if I can't find a home. Anybody have suggestions for finding a home??

I have Jack & Rue in the hutch together and I was wondering how long I can keep them together before they start getting "fiesty"?Is it 12 weeks?

I weighed all the buns yesterday and Lila is weighing in at over4lbs 10oz!! Omg i know?? She is huge! :) Before her pregnancy she was 4 pounds 3 oz and around the fair and showing season I try to get her under 4lbs but she is a big girl lol. Charlie is 10 months now and he weighs 3lbs 1oz. Is he full grown? If so he is a small guy :) Jack weighs 2lbs 2oz and Rue weighs 1lb 8oz :)

I've noticed that Jack's personality is just like Charlie's. They are both pretty mellow and carefree :) Rue's personality is a lot like Lila's! They both just hop~hop~hop and never sit still lol :) It was soo hard to get pics of them this week!I love all their personailties:)

I took pics of all thebunnies this week so I'll share them with you all below! Enjoy the cuteness, and if you're interested in Jack pm me :D

SO CUTE!!! I love hollands and their squashy little faces. Charlie is a really nice looking buck. He looks like a total sweetheart :)

how the hell did you get a bunny to wear a tiara long enough to get pictures taken?? (and where do you get a bunny-sized tiara?)

oh my word....THAT IS SO CUTE! Yes, how did you get Lila to wear a tiara?! :) it was so cute!
I love Rue's little airplane ears! I love holland lops!

I bought a hutch today and put Jack & Rue in the new hutch and left Lila in her hutch. I've heard that it's less stressful for the kits if you keep them in the doe's hutch and just move the doe out. Hopefully the way I did it will be alright.

They will be fine. :) I actually find that the doe is usually more stressed to leave her cage if it's done that way. Just think- pulling her away from her kits, her normal environment, etc., and sticking her in a new cage. On the other hand, babies are usually pretty curious and don't mind moving away if they have some siblings coming with them. I think the does process that a little better and realize the kits are just going off on their own.

It doesn't really matter how you do it though. Rabbits aren't usually that sensitive about a move a few feet away. It's just my experience that kits tend to be a little more accepting of change than my older buns who are more set in their ways.

Also, I still haven't found a home for Jack I'm starting to get worried, but my cousin said she would adopt him if I can't find a home. Anybody have suggestions for finding a home??

Have you started evaluating him type-wise? You'll want to try and determine what market you're trying to reach before advertising. Finding good pet homes are often the most difficult, so I post everywhere (Facebook, Craigslist, some local sites, etc.) and then sort through inquiries to find the homes I feel are best.

I have Jack & Rue in the hutch together and I was wondering how long I can keep them together before they start getting "fiesty"? Is it 12 weeks?

It depends on the individuals. I have some bucks who have to be separated as early as 7-8 weeks. Some are fine for a lot longer.

Charlie is 10 months now and he weighs 3lbs 1oz. Is he full grown? If so he is a small guy

At 10 months old, yes, he is full grown. 3 lbs. is pretty average for a Holland, Lila is the one that's a bit on the larger side! If she is at an unhealthy weight because of being free fed on her litter or something, you can try bringing her weight down a little, but be careful about getting her under 4 lbs...10 oz. is a lot of weight for a Holland to lose under normal circumstances, she may just be an overall larger Holland or even a false dwarf.

agreed with julie.

We always have just moved the babies out of the moms cage and usually keep them together until we have another cage open. The babies really dont care and are very curious with their new surroundings. Some of them like that their siblings are with them so that helps.

Weren't you breeding for show hollands? I thought you might keep them and take them to shows first? I know that most new people have to keep their hollands and grow them out to learn their lines. I didn't know you were breeding to just give them away as pets

They are super adorable and I really like the little boys head!

Jenny: Thanks! He is very sweet :)

Jennifer/Christina: lol :D I got the tiara at petco last weekend. It's a clip you can put in your pets hairthat looks like a tiara :) I thought it was soo cute and I had to buy it ^.^

Julie: Thanks for all the advice :D You pretty much answered all my questions :) I have evaluted them and noticed that Jack is larger then Rue and his ears are long. I'm new at all this but I've decided that Rue will probably be a better show bunny. I think I'll post an ad of facebook and other websites. Should I say on the ad that he can be used for showing, breeding, and a pet? :)

Sarah: I am breeding for showing. How did u come to the conclusion that I'm putting them away as pets? lol They are my "pets" but I will also be bringing them to shows and the fair. Also, the reason I decided to keep Rue not Jack is because I used the knowledge that I have to evalute them and decided Rue would be a better show bunny. I can't keep the both of them because it's too many buns for me to care for and I don't have room for him sadly. I would love to keep both of them but I'm young, only 15 and I live with my parents and I've only been showing my buns for less then a year. Your comment came off a little rude but I hope I explained myself :)

Lauren: Thanks :D

I wouldn't recommend advertising a 7-8 week old as show or breeding potential. :) Hollands are a breed that is very slow to develop. Other than obvious DQs, it is difficult to determine whether they will have qualities beneficial to a breeding herd or not.

Typically it is closer to 4-6 months until the kits start coming out of their "uglies" (the gangly stage) and begin maturing into their adult bodies and proportions. This is the age that you'd have a better idea of whether a rabbit has characteristics that would improve a breeding herd or whether they're the overall package to be a show rabbit.

If you can't keep him that long, just advertise him as a pet. I don't think Sarah meant anything negative by her post, but her comments were correct. :) Breeding for show Hollands is a long process. In the beginning, it's best to grow all kits out to see how they develop from the nestbox to the show table. After a few generations, you're more able to see patterns and consistency within your herd.

Of course, not everyone is able to do that right away and that's understandable. But if you're not, it's safer to just sell pets. Otherwise, you could have an unhappy customer come back later after showing or breeding the rabbit and not getting the results you suggested at the time of the sale. After all, if you don't think Jack would make a good show rabbit for you, he wouldn't show well for others either.

Yes definitely didn't mean to be negative. When you said I still haven't found a home for Jack I thought you had already found a home for the girl and were not keeping either of them. That's why I was asking. So sorry and didn't mean to come out rude. And second what Julie said above I just can't say things quite as well lol

Some breeds you can tell who are show quality and pet quality very easily (usually marked breeds). Tans are like Hollands as it takes a while to decide on who to sell and who to keep. Even then I kick myself because I got rid of the wrong rabbit at 3months when they really popped at 5months. From what I've experienced from holland breeders is that the ugly stages are so rightfully named. They can look hideous at times. I know some people who even hold their juniors in a cage that is away from the eyes and then when they get them out a month or two later they are like wow glad I kept that one.

Sorry for the confusion.

That's for sure! And just like you'll sometimes kick yourself when a rabbit really pops later...sometimes the kits that look GREAT when they're young will fall apart by senior age.

I haven't worked with Tans to know much about how they mature, but if they're like Hollands, they can be a total gamble until senior age!

That is something that does change the further you get into your line. The line starts getting more consistent, and you start learning how your line develops a bit better to make decisions earlier. But definitely in a first litter from two total outcrosses, the results are rather unpredictable.

do you know what the tiara was actually called? I totally want some for my bunnies now!

here are the (free) sites I found where you can list pets for sale... FB isn't on there 'cause I refuse to set foot on social networking sites, lol.
http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites
http://www.webclassifieds.us/
http://www.petclassifieds.us/
http://www.buysellcommunity.com/
http://www.usfreeads.com/
http://sanantonio.ebayclassifieds.com/ (obviously you'll want to change the default city)
if you find any that aren't on my list, I'd love to know about 'em - I'm selling off a litter of hamster babies.

If you are going to breed periodically, I recommend making a Weebly or Webs website of everything at your rabbitry. Or take him to your next show. If you evaluate him and he deems himself show/brood quality, someone will likely be interested at a show. But again, I'd personally wait until about 3 months to see how he turns out. You will be more likely to sell a Junior buck. If he is pet, a website will be extremely helpful. I've set my heart on my next bunny being a Holland Lop, and I've found that many rabbitries never have babies available because their waiting list is so long. I think it's just a matter of getting more exposure. You could register your rabbitry with the ARBA. That gets free advertising on their site. Whatever you do, make sure he goes to a good home.;). That's always the most important thing.

I soo agree with the freewebs idea. I have one from when I had my rabbitry. It is easy to set up/change. You can add pictures and everything. I keep mine up for the pictures that are on there. Here is mine to give you an idea. http://ldrabbitry.webs.com/. I have not messed with it in a couple of years so it is out of date a little.

Jennifer: Thanks soo much for all the websites! I'll definatly be posting ads on those sites Also, can I post an ad onrabbitsonline?:) I got the tiaras in the petco store and I can't find them on the petco website so I googled them and here is a pic. Hopefully you can find them :)

Lauren: I've started making a website at weebly.com but I can't figure it out. I might just have to start over :)

Kat: Thanks for the advice. I can't keep Jack because I don't have enough space for him here so I have to evaluate them now. Also, I'm trying to make a website at weebly.com but I don' know for sure if Ill be breeding periodically :)

Sarah: Sorry for reactingso rude! I didn't mean to, I was just confused :) Also, I would love to keepJacktill he is older butit's winter and I don't have space for 4 bunnies so I have tofind a home for one of the bunnies. From what I can see, Rue is probably going to be a better show rabbit. Thanks for all the advice :)

Julie: Thanks for all the great advice! I definatly appreciate it :)

Do you have posed pictures of either of them? Im very curious to see how they look. And weebly is pretty simple you just pick a theme for colors and format. I just added the pages I wanted such as the homepage, bucks, does, and litters, for sale and then go to each page and add pictures and what not. I like the simplicity and cleanliness of it.
