I was just wondering when would be a good time to let Furby and Ellie out to run about. They were spayed on Thursday and have been fine. I checked Both today and it looks like Furby has already pulled out her stitches but is healing nicely. Ellie now has 2 stitches left but everything seems to be healing. I know if I let them out they will binkie like mad and will try to jump. Is this ok? or do I keep them in for longer?:colors:

I think we had a post like this and the recommended time to keep them quiet is a week. I kept Zoey confined to her hutch for a week to ensure proper healing.

As for being together, the recommend separating rabbits for 2 weeks after a spay because internal damage can be done.

Sheridan-Our vets instructions were to keep them dry and quiet for 7 days. But after 5 days or so if they were healing well we let ours out. We just tryed to keep them from over doing it. No jumping on the couches, etc...but they didn't seem to have problems with their binkies. So maybe another day and let them out for a bit of supervised exercise??:)

MBB-Our vet agreed that with bonded bunns leaving them together was best since it added undo stress to seperate them.(Skittles won't eat if she is seperated from Peppy). So that is what we did. They were housed together before and after the spay at theclinic, travelled together in the carrier and when we brought them home they went into their hutch together. I just had to keep a close eye on them to make sure no one was pulling at their stitches. This worked for our girls but theyare littermates and had been together for 6-7 months before their spay. I think they would have been really freaked to have been apart for7 days!

Cool thanks for that. I will keep them in. Its just such a nice week that it would be nice to let them out!

I actually separated them a couple of weeks ago. They were always together, sprawled out in the hutch. But 1 day I noticed Furby had a big gash on her leg! I took her to the vet immediately but he said it was about 4 days old. Thats when I separated them. To begin with they just seemed so sad. But they seem to be getting better. I am going to wait until Sun when the vet is supposed to remove the stitches and then start rebonding them. I dont think I will need to do much as if I ever do put them together(closely supervised) they just cuddle up!:colors:

I know, but I knew Sheridan had separated the rabbits a few weeks ago. Any attempts to rebond them too soon may be disasterous. It's more of an issue if there is mounting or fighting. But I'd still say keep them quiet for a week and if you want, then put them together again.

Will do. I will probably keep them separately for a few weeks until the hormones start to die down. I dont want to risk putting them together too quickly either. I think the 6 weeks required will be too long but a few weeks should be ok to start

They say 6 weeks only because it can take that long for males to become sterile. When it's 2 does (it is 2 does, right?) the wait is about 2 weeks to allow them to heal good.

ahhhhh, thatnks for that. That makes me feel so much better. I cant wait to put them together again. I know they will just love it. Thanks MyBaby Bunnies. I had it completely wrong!!!:colors::bunnydance::colors:
