After I lost Jim and Chester I was in no mood for another rabbit but today I finally gave in to the temptation and picked up a rabbit...I picked Leonard up this evening from a decent store that kept animals quite well...

The store guy was quite sure that Leonard is a male and 3 months old, but I get the feeling that Leonard is at least 6 months old since he is 12 inches long while sitting normally... I havnt checked Leonard's sex by myself but I will tomorrow.. Right now he gets freaked out if I go too close to him, but he is eating fine...

Here are two pics.. The best I could get for now.. His left ear is clipped, not sure why...

Awwww! I would have done the same thing.

He's :adorable:

Having gotten a Flemmie at five months, I'd guess your little guy was three months, yup! My boys weighed I think seven and nine lbs? Or was it nine and 11 at five months? :ponder:

They're big bunnies!

Thanks :)

Leonard is hiding under the ramp right now, he thinks that tiny ramp can hide him *chuckle*

How old do you think Leonard is? I shall weigh him tomorrow..

He's definitely not much over 3 months if that. I'm almost leaning more towards 10 weeks.

He's adorable. Welcome to the world of flemmie slaves - flemish are really unlike any other breed of rabbit that I know of.

Thank you :)

Isnt 10 weeks = 2 months, 2 weeks?

How long do flemish giants live? I hope 15 years or more!

Thank you.. He is slowly warming up to me, he allowed me to pat him and he also accepted food from my hand more than thrice... I have tons of bunny toys like rattles, rattles with a place to keep treats, sisal toys and wooden nibblers but this guy doesnt like toys!

Here are some more pics :D
What's that? Looks tasty

He looks really young to me, too. Some of the new pictures make him look more like two months.

It would be good to try and feed him the same diet he from the place where you got him, although the breeder could have been feeding him something else entirely so its not always a sure thing. Its not good to change rabbits diets suddenly.

I think I see odd poops in the cage. It looks like he needs to have a lot of hay and water but not too much else until his poops are totally solid.

sas :)

Thanks for replying...

From what I know his poop is fully solid and black in color but I shall keep a check on him.. I just measured him he is 10 inches in length when he is sitting normally and 18 inches when he stretches out... He weighs 2.5 pounds, much lesser than what I thought...

He was fed ONLY cabbage leaves and boiled rice in the shop.. I am giving him cucumber, tomatoes (very little) romaine lettuce and carrots... I am also giving him a few strands of hay every hour.. I have a hay tray, I shall attach it right now...

The odd poops look like cecals to me, which isn't a big issue for young bunnies to not eat them all.

I did catch Lenny eating some of his poop.. I had no clue that there is something called cecals and rabbits eat them!

So not eating all the cecals is normal right? I dont want anything to happen to him so I want to do everything right this time...

Usually I dont feed any of my pets pellets, but if needed then I can order them.. The only brand of pellets available here is Sunseed, is it good enough?

i'd say so . its importand for their diet tho . but if your bunnies are healthy thats awsome :) !!! he is adorable bye the way !.im following you blog also, cute rabbits

Sorry to hear about Jim. Leonard is a cutie and the name is fitting with those ears. Like Leonard Nemoy!

The most important thing is hay, that's something he can eat all day. :)

His diet sounds better than it was, LOL! Boiled cabbage and rice? Yikes!

Hay, greens, other veggies, etc, are all good. G

Fresh grass, berry leaves, dandelion, etc. also work if they haven't been subjected to fertilizer, pesticides or animal waste. (I think you have mulberry leaves there, right?)

I have a Flemish I think that same color, his name is Mikel, aka Mike, aka Mikey. I'll be following Leonard's progress! He's a doll!

Thanks!

I will be picking up fresh hay today.. I also have a packet of alfafa hay, I shall give him a lil bit everyday..

I prefer not to give my animals pellets since a few years ago when I had given my first rabbit some pellets he got severe constipation... I would give him a small cup of pellets once a day, and in 7 days he found it hard to poop! I dont trust the pellets we get here, that's why I prefer to stick to veggies, occasional fruits and hay...
