I have not read the books but love the movies. Does not go a long with what I believe (well not all that I believe.) but can't help but love it.

Anyone read the books?

I've heard they're a load manure. Narrativewise and in the way they are written.

The reaction to the screen adaptations have been slightly better though.

*edit*
Shoulda made the point that I'm part of quite a few avid readers circles, the general reaction was that they were absolute rubbish.

Its been years since I read them - I used to have all of them and loved them.

First of all - you have to understand that they DO go along with my doctrinal beliefs as a Christian - so I had no problem with that.

Plot wise - I felt they went along quite well with what "could" happen based upon scripture and I felt like they lined up to prophecy in the Bible. Tim LaHaye has written about and studied Bible prophecy and end times for a number of years - as a high school senior in 1978 my writing project was on his book "The Late Great Planet Earth" (and of course my professor judging it was an atheist - still yet - I got an A).

Style wise - I must say the books probably could have used some help. But I did find myself getting involved in the lives of the characters from book to book and actually cried when one major character died.

I think I still have these and will be happy to send them to you if I find them Ali.

I think these books will probably have more impact in the world when the "rapture" occurs and these books are left behind.... :D

I wouldn't recommend these books to people who haven't read or studied the Bible because they will seem really "out there"...but if you've studied prophecy at all about the end days...these books really do hit home.

I guess the best thing to do is read the first one and then see if you want to go from there!

Just finished the first book... I'm a speed reader and thought I'd throw my own opinion in.

I have to agree, scripture wise it is quite accurate, however it was the character development that really got to me, it felt... lacking. It was like the author was more obsessed with the fact of pushing the storyline. Atleast that's how I felt.

I haven't felt that yet, I guess if I keep going with the series I might see it a bit more.

I used to study the bible heavily at one point I decided I was going to become a pastor.

All up it was okay... Mediocre in my opinion... but then again if you're really in to Christianity then you'd probably enjoy it.

I'll pick up one of the movies when I get a chance and see what it's like.

I've read them all! I started reading them in 8th grade and absolutely loved them. To be honest, I haven't reread them so I don't remember too much anymore. I do, however, remember how much I loved the characters.

I haven't watched the movies yet. I should look into them soon.

As long as you're aware that it's not your typical Doomsday type of end of the world, you might like them. It's obviously VERY heavily Bible based, lots of Christian beliefs and ideals. But it sounds like you know that already.

For me, I've read them, but they don't go along with my beliefs at all. Easy reads to pass the time on a long car ride, as was my case.

I am entrigued by religion. I was raised Jehovas Witness so while Cristian not the exact same beliefs as most.

Ask me what I believe now... That is an intresting discussion.

I like doomsday movies because I LOVE how people react in times of crisis.

You might like "Flash Forward" then Ali - I just watched episode one on Hulu this afternoon....

Yeah - only four more episodes to go before I'm caught up....I might watch more tonight but right now the buns are looking at me and licking their lips.

My flash forward moment would be of me laying on the ground being overrun by bunnies cause they weren't fed and figured out how to get out of their cages...

YIKES...5 flemmies at once?

Ali, a guy best friend of mine bought me the first book, his words: "Don't get scared." I started it, didn't finish it, sham on me, I know. I love and am intrigued by this stuff.

Did you watch Ghost Adventures Live on Friday night? Anyone? It was awesome!!!!!!

Also, that Nostrodameous thing started I think last night, saw it on tonight but didn't watch it. Want to catch it on rerun as it refers to 2012, eek. That movie looks scarey as heck!:panic:
