So Layla has been leaving me some "presents" lately. Today she left me a huge one outside her litterbox. She rarely eats her cecotrophs, and this one today warranted a picture being taken. Is this normal? Should I be concerned she's not getting something essential such as B-vitamins or other good gut flora from her cecals?

Keep in mind she's only a little over 3 months old and not even 2 pounds.. That's a quarter next to it for comparison.

My bunny Charlie had that occationally. The vet said to just keep an eye on it and if it coninued, she could give her a shot of vitaminB or whatever that she'd be missing evenutally if she continued at it. (continued leaving it).

Being that I ended up giving her back to the breeder I'm not sure what ever came of it, so I can't help that much;just thought I'd throw that out there though what I did know. lol

Yes, it is quite the pile, haha.

As for her diet she eats Purina (16% protein) pellets free fed and free-choice unlimited timothy/orchard/alfalfa hay. She also eats her straw floor mats, but no veggies/fruits have been introduced to her diet yet.

The vet also mentioned with Charlie 'upping' the hay. I realize that is hard when they're on unlimited already and unlimeted pellets as well. They said to up the hay, mix several kinds to provide interest/variety. Sounds like you're already doing that.

So, I'd just keep an eye on her and if you get really concerned or anything changes give the vet a call.

I think she ate most of it since I cleaned her cage and couldn't find it anywhere or on her. I guess some rabbits like them warm, others like them chilled. But hey, guess she likes them aged >.>

Fraggles did this also as a baby and the cecals were huge like this. So big for such a little baby lol. Our vet said that cecal eating for a lot of rabbits is something that is developed over time and frankly a baby bun is to busy doing other stuff to worry about cecals. Think of it as a little kid not eating there veggies its the same thing. This pile is big but well formed and not abnormal looking. You did say she ate some of it. As long as she is a good weight and active I would not worry. Like I said Fraggles left us cecals every morning as a baby and now as at a year we never see them. Hope this puts you at ease a little.... Layla is sooooo cute by the way :)
