Snuggles is stillblowing his nose or whatever.

I still don't see any discharge....maybe he's cleaning it away?...andhis eyes look good and he's eating. I just don't feel right letting itgo.

Thanks to this site

http://homepage.mac.com/mattocks/morfz/PB_vets.html

I found a vet nearby.

Hope ya don't mind......when I get back I'llpost what they say/do/give and ask you all if it's "right"?:D

Best of Luck. I hope it goes well,Lynda. The best way to really know what you're dealing withis to have the vet take a culture and they'll be able to tell you ifit's allergies or something more serious.

Will be thinking and praying for you both.

Thanks everyone!

First,Snuggles isapparentlya she not ahe...doc didn't feel any testicles today, said she'll double check whenwe go back to be sure.

"Oh look how cute!" "She's adorable!" Everyone in the office "had to" come in and see her:D

Age:2-3 months

Weight: 2lbs

Heart and lungs sound good.

Dx: Pasteurella

Treatment: Baytril 0.7ml twice a day

We'll go back in 2 weeksand probably continue Baytril for another 2 weeks

Dr Johnson was very nice. Shegave me a care sheetthatrecommends a visittowww.rabbit.org. Says,"They havesome great, accurate information." and she cutSnuggle's nails......

Total cost: $49.75

I think I'm ok with this. Are you?;)

Did they takea culture, Lynda?

-Carolyn

Every rabbit is different, so that's why it's best to get a culture rather than just go by symptoms of sneezing.

As I wrote in another post:

Total elimination of the Pasteurella, especially the rhinitis, infection is difficult, if not impossible. The bacteria lies asequestered pus in the labyrinthine nasal passages and are isolatedfrom antibiotics. Antibiotics can suppress the nasal discharge, but thebacteria will usually remain and repopulate when the antibiotictreatment is stopped.

Be careful of the vet who diagnoses Pasteurella without doing aculture/sensitivity test. With this test, the vet can determine whatpathogen is causing the infection and provide the antibiotics needed.Different strains (i.e., Bordatela brochiseptica, Streptococcus, etc.)would call for different antibiotics, but they're often misdiagnosed asPasteurella because the symptoms parallel.

I'll be thinking and praying for you and your little one.

That's what I forgot to put in my "update"!

No, Carolyn, no culture.......shame I didn't see your post before I went:(

I'll talk to the vet about it when we go back.

Thanks!

Yes, Lynda. I'd make the vetdo a culture so that you know for sure. It'll cost you a bit,but it's worth every penny because if it is Pasteurella, Snuggles willmost likely have to stay on Baytril for the rest of her life because itwill block the bacteria as I noted in the previous message.

Rabbits can live with Pasteurella, they just need to stay on the drugs, which can be very expensive when you add it up.

That said, it's a good thing you caught it when you did before it progressed any further.

Whatever it might be..."big" or "small"...I'll handle it.

Special needs kids (my oldest is a teenager:shock:LOL and myyoungest has Autism), special needs bunny....whatever the cost(emotionally and/or financially), they're allmore than worthit!:D

Ya know, I almost didn't get Snuggles. Now, I can't help but think I"had to". The instant bond, undescribable(sp?)relationshipwith my youngest son and her beingsick.......

My son keeps looking at the clock and asking me, "When do we have togive Snuggles her medicine?" Do you know how much to give her?""Remember she needs a treat when we're done!" "Look Mom, she's lickingme! "I help her feel better don't I?"

I thinkthey make each other feel better;)

I have that post bookmarked now.....Thank you!!!
