Hubby and I are going on holidays without the kids next week. The kids can't take Peaches with them so I had to ask my 14 year old daughter's friend to come twice a day to care for him. He's currently in a 2 level condo that he can run in - he's just a tiny little 2 lb lionhead. He won't be allowed outside-outside (because he's too darn hard to catch once he's free) but he will be allowed to stretch his legs outside his cage in his 10x10 space. Now I'd love to give this bunny free roam of the house cuz he's so-not-rabbitty (he loves to lick, get petted and brushed and likes to be held) - he's a real doggy (my son even pulled out one of his crooked whiskers and he still likes my son! Go figure!). I can't let him wander around because all our floors are either hardwood or linoleum (both of which he doesn't like cuz it's slippery). I have linoleum downstairs too but I put down a large blanket so he can binky around and run.
Now I'm wondering how awful this experience is gonna be for Peaches - he's only about 7 months old - he's not yet fixed (we wanted to before but it got pushed back until we return from holidays). I'm worried that the sitter will have problems trying to get him back in his cage or that he won't want to come out to stretch his legs - even though sometimes I'll leave his cage open and he just wants to stay home and won't come out.
I hope things go well for her - I'll be leaving her with a bag of cut greens in the fridge so she can give him some - but right now he just really likes his pellets. She won't have to change out his litter box cuz Peaches only goes in one corner, after two days, she can flip the box around and he'll fill out the other corner and another 2 days after that she can just put in the fresh litter that I'll have prepared - so she won't have to empty any litter.
How horrible will this experience be for him? Will he remember us when we come back? How bad can it get for the sitter? He's very unpredictable - one minute you're petting him and he looks like he's falling asleep and the next he's humping your arm! He's a sweetie too, he'll lay his head near the grid and let himself be petted through the bars. I feel so sad for him!
