As some of you know, my hubby and I bought ourfirst house recently. We'll be doing a lot of landscapingthis summer because the previous owners obviously never went outsideexcept to go to their car. There's nothing in theyard! The only tree was cut down, probably because it was athreat to the roof (boxelder= weak wood) and the only shrub is ajapanese yew (the typical hedge bush) that hasn't seen a trimming insome time. I'm not a fan of them so it will get taken outanyway.

What we want to do, aside from putting in a vegetable and herb garden,is plant a few trees around the yard and line the wooden deck withshrubs. I'm thinking of bunny proofing the deck so they canplay outside in summer, so any shrubs there will need to be safe toeat. I'd like smallish deciduous (leafy) shrubs.Any suggestions? Tasty is actually good so we could harvest afew twigs for the buns.

As for trees, James wants a pear tree- yummy for all of us!We might also add cedars along the fenceline, or bird-friendly shrubslike dogwood. We don't want anything that will get hugebecause our yard and house are on the small side and a huge tree wouldlook silly (although I do like maples). These don't have tobe bunny safe or yummy, but more dual-use plants would befun. Suggestions?
