It just seems like a gimmick product.

A nutritional supplement that supports feelings of contentment in dogs, cats, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits, and gerbils.

What exactly does " supports feeling of contentment" supposed to mean? It sounds like it doesn't so much if you pet is not already calm.
A nutritional supplement implies something nutritional is being given to your pet.

Let's see....buzz, high, magic carpet ride, trip, stoned, BWI (binkying while impaired)....are terms that come to mind. Not a safe "supplement" and contains widely varied components.....some of which have caused many human deaths. If I remember correctly, it's sale in the US is restricted in some manner. I can't imagine any reason I would want to give this to any species. I think there is another similar product that I would never use called Rescue Remedy. In my opinion, this goes along with chants, incantations and ritual sacrifices. I think most of the alleged use of this stuff has to do with relaxation and lack of stress....so instead of a high, provide a relaxing and stress free environment. That would have less potentially harmfulside effects.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I'm trying to picture my young flemish binkying while impaired (I thought they were already doing it sometimes on the tile...).

I dont' know about giving it to pets but I take Tryptophan myself. Here(in canada) you need a prescription to get Tryptophan and its mostly used as a sleep aid or for slight anxiety/relaxation.

It definitely does give you a sedation effect. I'm just not sure if its safe for pets. I'd assume it was ok but I wouldnt' want to use it unless it was prescribed by a pet.

I wonder though how sedation-inducing it could be. It also contains taurine, which is a stimulant used in energy drinks, and also a neuroactive compound. It takes a LOT of tryptophan to cause sleep. You may be familiar with the saying that all the tryptophan in turkey makes you sleepy after the big meal on Thanksgiving. That's a lie, it's more likely to be due to overeating and alcohol consumption. There isn't enough tryptophan in even a generous serving of turkey to put you to sleep.

The pill does have some vitamin D though, so maybe as a vitamin D supplement? :ponder:

I think that's just one more of those BS products pet stores try to sell you.
I agree with Randy, a relaxing and stress free environment will do a lot more for your pet. Add to that a good dose of petting and cuddling, and you'll both be happy :D

Pet stores make me aggravated. :grumpy:

Why sell useless things? Is there anything that is (semi)natural that calms rabbits down?

My boyfriend is taking his Veko to the vet to be neutered and he's kind of a spaz. I'm really worried about the effect of the stress on him.

Bayou couldn't care less what you do to him. Aggravate him, he'll honk, box, move on. Veko on the other hand is kind of a wussy.

Just want to take all possible precautions to minimize stress. Dave isn't quite as worried, so maybe I'm just over reacting.
Aaaand now I'm worried that I'm worrying too much. :embarrassed:

Someone stop me while I'm ahead. :biggrin2:

There are actually prescription anti-anxiety drugs available for dogs that really, really need them.:)

I would never trust an over-the-counter drug for animals though. That stuff isn't tested for safety, just like herbal supplements aren't. If you really wanted to try something, you could feed a little fresh lavender. It's a safe veggie for rabbits and most of mine enjoy eating it. I have no idea if the smell is as relaxing for them as it is for humans. I LOVE the smell of fresh lavender!

I could see it being used for dogs, my grandma's dog is very neurotic and has a mental disorder, her medication changed her around

You can give bunnies with serious anxiety and/or seizure disorders valium (of course it's prescription only).

I think the best way to keep bunnies calm is to be calm yourself, keep quiet, not move quickly, and pet them gently on the head, speaking in soothing tones. I do that when Muffin gets upset in car rides.
