:soapboxLast week I placed an order for 45 pounds of hay through Kleenmama's for the shelter bunnies. I always have it shipped directly to the shelter. Kleenmama's takes Paypal, so I used that payment method.

Paypal, in their infinite wisdom, decides that this is a "suspicious" transaction and restricts my account to investigate. All I had to do was verify my information with them. Sounds easy - not. The final step in the investigation is to provide your home phone number and they place an automated call back to your phone and you enter a code number they give you on the website. The only problem is that I don't have a land line and they will not verify a cell phone (they have to tie it to your address). My only other option was to have them mail a letter to my address with a code number to verify my address - which takes 7-9 days.

I contacted Kleenmama's to ask about giving my credit card number to them over the phone or email. Unfortunately, they only accept CC's via paypal, but I can mail a check. Here is where I get mad......on Monday Linda at Kleenmama's emails me that she received my check on Saturday and Paypal also released my funds (I haven't even received the letter yet). I tell her "great, just tear up my check". No problem, right - not. I get another email later in the afternoon that Paypal took back the funds and she had already ripped up my check:banghead.

I really needed to get this hay to the shelter since they were very low. I had even gone out and bought $35 worth of Kaytee to tide them over. Linda was so nice that she shipped my hay yesterday and told me to just stick another check in the mail. WOW, how many places will trust you like that? Especially when I thought I was coming across as a huge flake!

Linda at Kleenmama's Hayloft is awesome:blueribbon:!! And Paypal stinks!

Argh! PayPal drives me insane. The other day I bought some stuff on eBay, but I didn't realise I'd just transferred my money into my transfer account, which I do every month to stop me overspending. So I was like £2 short. It bounced, PayPal paid it to the seller but said to me I was in the red by £10 and I should 'restore' the account.

So I paid £10 into my Paypal to balance my.. balance. Then I notice on my statement that I've paid £10 out twice. Looks like PayPal decided to do it themselves without telling me. So now I have an extra £10 in my PayPal account, and being poor with a week until pay day, I could really do with it! Thing is, its going to cost me in PayPal fees to withdraw it back from my PayPal! So I guess it will have to stay in there until I use it to buy some more stuff!

Both of those sound so frustrating! I haven't had any real problems with PayPal myself, but I've heard SO many horror stories from other people that I canceled my account with them a few months ago. And yet a couple days ago I got an e-mail from them about my account, I just remember! Better investigate that tomorrow :X

As a side note, I want to order some hay from Kleenmama, but I want to order new hay from this year's "crop" versus hay that would have been harvested last year. The reason for this is that I only have two rabbits, so they'll take a long time to eat it all and I want it to be as fresh as possible when it gets here! Does anyone know when Kleenmama gets the new hay?

ditto on the great customer service from Kleenmamas and the annoying paypal "service"! Last time I ordered from Kleenmamas for some reason it took FOREVER for the paypal funds to clear. I checked with Kleenmamas because I hadn't received a shipment notice and Linda responded that they usually wait for paypal funds before shipping. I checked with my bank and it had been transferred out of my account within 24 hours of my purchase but for some reason paypal hadn't released the funds yet. I contacted Linda the next day and told her it seemed to be a paypal issue and she said that if I was desperately low, they would just ship it and not wait for paypal. How awesome is that!?!! They shipped the hay the next day! As it turned out, paypal finally released the funds to them sometime on the day it shipped but Kleenmama's is awesome and paypal is a pain.

This was the first real issue I've had with Paypal but next time I will order well in advance of running out of hay.

That's great to know. I haven't tried Kleenmama's but have heard the hay is great. Will have to place an order but we've got about 80 pounds of hay at the moment. Melody is in love with APD's Mountain Hay and Super Fiber. Ali eats whatever is put in front of him.

Here's my hating PayPal story: I'm a grad student in the sciences and we needed some lab supplies. Since money is tight (of course, in research money is always tight because there's tuition, living stipend, healthcare etc to pay on top of all the lab equipment you need), I went onto eBay to buy some stuff. I was assured that the school could pay it back because they have a PayPal account andcredit card. Won the auctions, had about $600 of purchases to pay for.

When I went to the purchasing person to pay it off, PayPal wouldn't let him buy anything with the account because it had already been used to buy about $2000 of stuff before, and if you spend more than that, your account has to be "verified", meaning you tell PayPal your checking account number. The purchasing person doesn't have the authority to give out the checking account number, since it's the University's checking account number. You can't just give that out! It's none of PayPal's business how much $ the university has in its checking account! Yelling on the phone occurred.

Anyway, I ended up paying for the $600 myself, waiting a month to get reimbursed, going over my credit limit, overdrawing my own bank account to pay rent, etc etc. Being out $600 for a month is a lot for someone with my budget.

But I can sympathize because my PayPal got stolen once from a fishing site (email saying "please verify your account information, etc. etc.).
