Introduction:
Hi, I'm Molly. I'm 19 and live in Massachusetts. I have one bunny named Katmai. I also take care of my sister's rabbits and their babies. And here are the basics:
All buns are the same mixed breeds (black/white Dutch and Lionhead)and are related.
Katmai: male, 1 years old (b-day is March 16th), 3-4 lbs, black and white, not neutered.
Kodiak (Kody): female, 1 years old (b-day is March 16th), 5 lbs, all black, not spayed
Dutch: male, 10 months old (b-day is May 12th), 4-5 lbs, black and white, not neutered
Gopher: female, 3 months old (b-day is December 24th), 2-3 lbs, brown and black brindle, not spayed
Tuuka: male, 3 months old, (b-day is December 24th, 2-3 lbs, brown/black/white brindle, not neutered
The Background Story:
My sister and I got two buns last May, Kodiak and Katmai. We thought we had 2 boys. They came from the same parents, same litter. They got along fine. We put them in a medium sized hutch, thinking they'd stay really small.
Then a month or so later, we got another bun. He came from the same parents as Kody and Katmai but a from a different litter. We put him in the medium hutch, bought the large one off of Craigslist, and put Katmai and Kody in the large one.
Still new to rabbits back then and didn't know about having to bond rabbits, we put Dutch in the same pen with Katmai and Kody. All of a sudden, Katmai attacked Dutch.
Since then, Dutch has been seperated.
Last November, my sister and I rushed Katmai to the vet emergency room. He was deathly underweight and completely not himself. He was very lethargic.
$500 later, he came home from the vet. He was so weak that night. He could barely sit up. When he tried to sit, he kept falling over . For the next three weeks, he stayed in my room in a comfy cage. I fed him Fiesta rabbit food because it was high in fat and he needed to gain weight. He was also on two types of antibiotics.
While this all happened, Kody was in the hutch alone and Dutch was still alone in his hutch.
When my parents returned from their 10 week vacation, I had to put Katmai back with Kody. I was bewildered and heartbroken when I realized that the brother and sister had un-bonded in the 3 weeks that they've been apart. I had already known that Dutch got along with Kody, so I did a switcharoo. I put Dutch with Kody in the big hutch and I put Katmai in the small hutch. It seemed so convenient because everyone was happy.
In the beginning of December, I noticed Kody was actong odd. At the time, I still thought she was a he. "He" wouldn't let me touch her belly. She always honked and growled. She hated being touched. Since I thought she was a male, I though she was in serious pain. I had planned to call the vet and take her in. Before I had the chance, "he" gave birth to four baby bunnies on Christmas Eve.
So, these babies are all inbred. Don't worry, they don't have 3 legs and four eyes. But they grew at an extremely fast rate. I mean, they're huge in size, but they still weigh as much as their elder relatives.
We've given two of them away already to a friend. Now, we have the other two, a boy and a girl. They're almost of age to breed, so we're still looking for homes for them. Once Tuuka's "manhood" drops, we won't have anywhere to keep him seperated. We really want to give them topeople we know and that are adults.
So, Dutch and Kody had babies. Katmai is their uncle. And that's the background to catch you up

This week has been beautiful regarding the nice weather. I set up two pens for the 5 buns. One pen for my baby, who may or may not have Pasteurella. (I still have to send out a culture.)
The second pen, which is two times bigger than Katmai's, is for Kody, Tuuka, Gopher, and Dutch. I put a divider between Dutch and the rest of them as they have not been bonded and Dutch isn't neutered. I covered the divider with a towel but Dutch went under the towel to interact with his "children". Normally, I'd like to allow it but rabbits can still breed through a cage. And I REALLY don't want more baby rabbits.
So, I tucked the towel under the divider and the little b****** dug under it and got through it! By the way, my dad will have a cow because he's obsessed with the appearance of our backyard. Since Dutch was outside long enough anyways, I put him back into his hutch. Also, his hutch is huge as he has it all to himself. So, it's not like he's being in a small space on a nice, sunny day.
I took the divider out and gave the entire pen to Momma and the kids. (Kody's nickname is now momma). Also, since she had the kids, she lost some of her hair. Me being a rabbit snob, I inspected every inch of he body and it's not a "skin thing". It's just weird.
TODAY: I had a 2p-10p shift. I work at a chain pet store. You can take a guess if you'd like. Anyways, I couldn't let the kids out but my sister stopped by and let them out for a bit. Although, now that I think of it, I hope she let my baby out!
See, my sister and I obviously love our own rabbits. I love my Katmai but she hates him. She loves her buns but I'm not too fond of them. So, I hope she let him out.
At work, we've been getting calls from people asking "Do you have any bunnies?" I said "No, we don't." She said "You don't have them or you don't sell them?" I said "We don't sell them." She goes "Do you know where I can get one?" I said "There are a lot of them waiting at shelters." She goes "Oh, I see." and she hangs up! People these days!
Tomorrow, Easter, I'm baking bunny cookies with a recipe I found online. I hope the bunnies like them.
Happy Easter everyone!
