So,

How old do you have to be to get your (or start the process) of getting your lisence. Here, you can go for your G1 (learners permit) at 16, then if you take a driving school for a few months you can get your G2/G (normal lisence) after 7 months. If you don't take the driving school you have to wait a full year.

I have 12 months to go until I get my G1.. =)

I think is Saskatchewan we still get the learners permit at 16. The kids normally will take the course through the High School, then take the Drive course through SGI after completed to get there License. After they get there license for 1 year I think they are only allowed 1 or 2 people in the vehicle and it can only be a family member. That would be there probation then after the year they have full rights and can who ever and how many people they want in the car.

It's been awhile since I knew the rules here, but here's what I remember.

In Kansas, if you live on a farm, you can drive (just on the farm, I think) at 13. Learners' permit at 15, and regular license at 16. For anyone under 18, there are special restrictions, though, such as you can't have anyone under 18 in the front passenger seat while you're driving. (There are lots of accidents where there are just two teenagers in the car, and they're trying to reduce distractions for the young driver. I don't know if that works or not.)

I seem to recall that people at 15 can get a special permission to drive to and from work and school, before they have their regular license, as well.

In the UK you can start to learn at 17.

we live near a large drivers centre - practise roads, skid pan etc. they run pre-learner courses for 16 year olds - son is interested!

In Alberta you can get your Learners Licence at 14, but you can't get a full licence until 16. It takes 3 years to be able to do the whole process to get a full drivers licence no matter what age you start at.

I can get my licence, but haven't yet. :embarrassed:

I think we have that as well.

I'm 28 and still don't have mine :ph34r2 I have my learners but it's not renewed :ph34r2

its 16 here for the license, i think you can get your permit 6 months before, and then when you get the license it is a junior license and you have to have someone older then 18 i think in the car with you and you cant drive after a certain time.

i didnt get my license till i was 19, the day after christmas to be exact, and i cant imagine not ever getting it, it gives you such a freedom to be able to go and do whatever you want or need to do

I finally got around to getting my license a few years ago, unfortunately I waited too long and now we have the stupid "graduated licensing".

In Alberta you can get your learners permit at 14. You have to have your learner permit(phase 1) for 1 year, and be atleast 16 before getting your drivers license(phase 2). After 2 years of having your drivers license, you can apply for your phase 3 license(which is the same as phase 2 you just can have alcohol in your blood and you get more demerits).

The graduated program is pretty dumb. I like how you have to have your learners for atleast 1 year but I dont' understand the point of the 2 stages of the drivers license. The only difference between phase 2 and 3 is that in phase 3 you are allowed to have some alcohol in your system(in phase 2 you have to have 0 blood alcohol) and you are allowed 3 more demerits. Another thing is that you are able to stay at phase 2 forever(this is where I am)and not take another test to get to phase 3. Seems rather pointless as there isn't much incentive to going to phase 3. Plus who wants to pay another 150$ to take another test.

Here's it's 16 for your learners, and then after a year you can go for a driving test to get the license for new drivers.. still restrictions (one passenger, blah blah blah) but you don't need someone driving with you.. you have that for 2 years though, then you can do another road test (Which is rediculous IMO.. cash grab - if you fail, you just go back driving on the road..??) to get rid of the N.

I can go for for my N in september, but I don't think I'm prepared.. will have to see when the time comes! Was hoping to get a job over the summer so I could buy a car.. but no one is hiring! :( I really need a car, can't always be borrowing from someone else!

15 here thats for your learners, 6 months on your lear ners which is driving with a liscensed driver, then you get your restricted no passengers (but everyone does) no driving before 6 and after 10 (but no one does)and have tohave itfor12months or 6months with a defensive driving then onto your full which means no restrictions. Also you can get diff permits, like seems my Dad lives rurally I can carry my "two siblings" so really I can carry two friends. And two of my friends are able to carry their children.

Here is the "fine print" for your "temps" (AKA Class D Instruction Permit) here:

Applicants operating with a Class D instruction permit must be accompanied by a driver with at least two years licensed driving experience who currently holds a valid regular (not probationary or occupational) license. The accompanying driver must occupy the passenger seat beside the applicant and be one of the following:

- A qualified instructor age 19 or older, or

- A parent, guardian or spouse, age 19 or older. In addition, immediate family members of the applicant may ride in the back seat, or

- A person 21 years of age or older. If the permit holder is under 18 years old, the accompanying licensed person is required to have written authorization from the minor's parent or guardian prior to the operation of the vehicle.

Note: If you are at least 16 years of age, in addition to the licensed accompanying driver, one other licensed person 25 years of age or more with at least 2 years driving experience may occupy a seat in the vehicle other than the front seat.

If you operate a vehicle during hours of darkness, you must be accompanied by a qualified instructor or a licensed person 25 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience occupying the seat beside you.

It depends on what you are driving, here you can drive a tractor, quad, motorbike etc. at 16, you can take your theory test for your licence at 15 but you can't get your licence till 17 for a car.

If you don't already know how to drive you can take a driver's education class when you are 16 and then take a driver's test to get driver's permit (means someone 18 or older has to ride passenger) then you can get your license after 6 months. If you already know how to drive then you can just take the test and get your permit/license.

When I was 15 I just went and took the test, but then I had learned to drive a car/pickup when I was 8.

In Texas you can get you permit at 15.

Or you can get what they call a hardship lisence at 15. Which is your parent or guardian has to prove that they need you to be able to drive free and clear of a adult from the hours a 6 a.m. to 8p.m. Most people gets these if they have a parent in a wheel chair or what not.

You have to have your permit for 6 months before you can get a driver licence. Once you get your driver lisence. You can only have one persons under 21 for a year with you in the car unless its a sybling or parent. So one friend for a year.

That rule only apiles for under 18.

If your over 18 and have a clear driving record you can go down to the DMV take your writin and drving test and get your lience.

I have to take a driving course ordered by the judge. To get my lisense back. At 17 I got pulled over in my mother truck 3 time without insurence. So they suspended my liense

Here in WA state, at least at my school anyway, you can get your learners permit at 15 1/2 and then you can get your liscense at 16 years.

The rules have changed here in Adelaide at leasta fair bit since i got my licence at 21

You have to be 16 to be able to go for your licence but first you have to sit for a written test which you do on the computer these days....in my days we used the old fashioned way by using pen and paper.

If you pass the written test then you get your learner's permit which you have to stay on for 6 months and i forget how many hours now that you also have to write in a log book and you also have to do so many hours of driving in the night as well.....after the 6 months a driver will take you out and he is the one who will either pass you or fail you....if you pass you then go onto your P1's for a year, then after that year you then go onto your P2's for another year.

P=Probationary,so if you do anything wrong while you are on your P1 or P2..you will lose your licence or depends on the offence you could be made to stay on your p's for a long time...after the two years and no offencesyou can get your full licence

You also have to display your L plates while you are a learner and you have to display your P plates as well....otherwise you can lose your licence as well
