It certainly has been an interesting day with the buns. At work, I got this email from my hubby:

"I let Nibbles out to hop around the living room which he enjoyed immensely. He now bravely and confidently hops up on the couch. The down side is that he’s now very curious about the arm rests and I think it’s only a matter of time before he tries to hop off the arm rests. After a while he wouldn’t stop nibbling the magazine pile, so I lured him back into his bunny mansion with a raisin. I pushed the dowel rod] back in place and latched the top part of the gate, but I didn’t redo the zip tie at the bottom because I figured I’d let him back out after I’d showered and he’d had a chance to calm down. After all, the dowel rod was there (not tied at that end, but pushed into its usual position nonetheless).

Then, as I sat in the tub I heard a shuffling sound, and as I looked over Nibbles head popped ‘round the corner of the door. In a surprised voice I said, “Nibbles!” He very surprizedly struggled for traction on the vinyl flooring and then scurried back out into the hallway. Then I got to chase him around the office before corralling him back into his pen. He had knocked the side wall of the pen out far enough to force open the bottom of the gate enough so that he could hop right on out. Needless to say, the dowel rod has been re-secured and his gate is now tied shut with two ties."

Hilarious, right? Well, this evening, I let Nibbles out to run in the hallway again. He did pretty well for awhile, but then he WOULD NOT stop chewing on the red apparently-tastes-like-honey floor protector we have under Junie's cage. After saying, "NO" several times, moving him away several times, and giving him multiple other things to chew on, I got fed up and finally put him inside his pen so he would stop. He was okay for awhile, but then he started chewing on the bars in an effort to get out again. By that point I had already let Junie out to run around, so I couldn't have him out, too (they're not bonded yet). Junie's having a ball running up and down the hall, binkying all over the place, and flopping over in her cage when she's tired. Nibbles is sulking on the second story of his bunny mansion. Never happy! :p

Anyway, here are some pictures and video from this afternoon and evening:

Nibbles has continued his chewing this afternoon, too! It's the same spot on that red mat. Any ideas on how to dissuade him? We have so many other things for him to chew on, but that one spot is the thing he loves best! :X

If my boys chew, I always try to distract with something they are allowed to chew on. Now when I catch them nawing on something, all I have to do is present a toilet paper roll and they start chewing that. We never really trained them to do this, but I guess because I was consistent with offering alternative chewing, it worked.

Hope this helps. It takes some time doing it, and it's very repetitive, but it seems like they understand now. Dobby will pick up his towel, look at us, like OK I'm doing it, and as soon as I get up, he drops towel and looks at me for the toilet roll. I guess it's our bunnies way of saying it's time to play.

K :)

Was something spilled on this one spot, to make it so attractive? Can you turn the mat around or cover up that spot with something he can't move?
